'Flying thug' appears in court in Las Vegas wearing a SPIT MASK and chains as he stares at the female judge he 'tried to kill' by jumping over her bench when she denied probation requests

A Las Vegas criminal who threw himself over the judge's bench and attacked her last week appeared before her again Monday for sentencing wearing a spit mask.

Deobra Redden, 30, launched herself at Clark County District Judge Mary Kay Holthus on Wednesday with the words “nah f*** that b**ch” as she rejected his pleas for more probation.

Now he was brought back to Holthus' courtroom, chained around the waist and wearing a spit covering, CourtTV reported. At Monday's appearance, Holthus is expected to continue sentencing in Redden's baseball bat case.

Redden was jailed on $54,000 bail in connection with the attack and is now facing new charges for launching himself at the judge, who is considered a “protected person” in Nevada, but refused for the first time to appear in court.

He faced a prison sentence on a battery charge stemming from an attack with a baseball bat last year. The “flying thug” was initially charged with assault, but reached an agreement with prosecutors and pleaded guilty in November to a reduced charge of attempted battery causing significant injury.

Court video showed Holthus falling back from her chair into a wall when Redden landed on top of her and grabbed her hair and threw an American flag at them as she begged him to stop before security personnel managed to get him away to drag.

The marshal and the judge tried to avoid the attack, but Redden threw himself on top of them both and began to brutally beat Holthus.

He was not shackled or in jail at his sentencing hearing Wednesday because he had been released from custody as part of his plea deal.

Redden is being held in solitary confinement after admitting that he attacked her because he was having a “bad day.”

He will not interact with other inmates and will eat alone in his cell with extremely limited time outside while in solitary confinement.

He told corrections officers, “The judge has it in for me,” after he was arrested following the outburst, court documents show.

The thug is said to have added: “Judge is bad,” before apologizing to officers.

“I'm sorry you guys had to see that,” he said before reportedly asking another officer if what he did was wrong.

He allegedly spat in a corrections officer's face after the incident while still in the courthouse.

Holthus, who returned to work just one day after her head was hit against the wall, told police that Redden was “big, strong and angry.”

Court Marshal Shane Brandon suffered a cut to his face that required 25 stitches, while Clerk Michael Lasso suffered several minor hand abrasions.

Redden's criminal record is marked by mostly violent crimes and includes prior convictions for three felonies and nine misdemeanors, District Attorney Steve Wolfson said.

“He's been violent his entire adult life,” Wolfson said.

Redden had tried to convince the judge otherwise on Wednesday.

“I'm not a rebellious person,” he told her, adding that he didn't think he should be sent to prison. “But if it's right for you, then you have to do what you have to do.”

Moments later, when the judge made it clear that she intended to put him behind bars, the court marshal moved to handcuff him and take him into custody. Redden shouted expletives and charged forward.

People who had been sitting in the courtroom with him in the audience, including his foster mother, started screaming.

Redden has a long criminal history with charges in both Nevada and Texas. The 30-year-old has been charged with assault, theft, assault, property damage and coercion, records show.

A judge had previously required Redden to undergo a competency determination. Records show he was evaluated and found competent to stand trial in the battery box before pleading guilty to the reduced charge.

Redden, who lives in Las Vegas, previously served time in prison in Nevada on a domestic battery conviction, records show.

Holthus was a career prosecutor with more than 27 years of court experience when she was elected to the state court in 2018.
