Floyd ‘The Money’ Mayweather surrounded by special forces guards after spending ‘7 million dollars at Gucci’ in South Africa

Floyd ‘The Money’ Mayweather was seen leaving a Gucci store in South Africa surrounded by armed guards after spending ‘7 million dollars’ inside.

Video showed several armed guards — including one wearing a hoodie with the branding of Mayweather’s boxing promotion company The Money Team — walking through a shopping center in Sandton City, Johannesburg, with Mayweather in tow.

DailyMail.com wrote to the Mayweather Jr. Foundation and the Boxer’s own PR team for a comment on the validity of claims he spent $7 million on the store, but heard nothing back.

The boxer was in the country as part of his ‘Motherland Tour’, which ended on July 16 but started on July 13 in neighboring Zimbabwe.

Mayweather also hosted a banquet dinner on July 15 to raise money for South African boxing youth through his Youth Empowerment Program at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Upon his arrival in South Africa, he told local media that he was there to support young boxers.

“I am proud to honor and celebrate the South African boxing legends who have paved the way for youth and left an indelible mark in South Africa and beyond,” he said.

He added: ‘It’s been a tough period with the industry dealing with a crippling global pandemic, but we’ve come this far. It is through sport, especially boxing and music, that brings nations together.”

As part of the tour, Mayweather held an event on a soccer field in Mabvuku, one of Zimbabwe’s oldest black townships.

Hundreds chanted “Mayweather mbinga…mbinga,” which translates to “Mayweather…the rich man,” as he punched a punching bag and performed other exercises, the Associated Press reported.

Earlier, after stepping off his private jet, Mayweather briefly addressed local reporters and made it clear that he was delighted to be in Africa.

‘I am back home!’ he screamed. ‘I’m back where I belong, I’m really home again!’

In Mabvuku, on the outskirts of the capital Harare, fans were treated to live music and demonstrations by local boxers, young and old.

Mayweather showed up four hours after the crowd gathered. People also sang and danced while watching on a big screen.

His visit came after an earlier meeting with Pedzisayi ‘Scott’ Sakupwanya, a Zimbabwean gold trader. Two years ago, after running into Mayweather in Dubai, Sakupwanya told Zimbabweans he would bring the American fighter to Zimbabwe.

“It shows that I will fulfill everything else I promised you,” he told the crowd.

Organizers previously announced that Mayweather – who they said will help build schools and hospitals in the area – will also visit South Africa on his tour.

Mayweather also met with Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Harare.

Alfonso Zvenyika, a former Commonwealth boxing champion, was part of the special day at Mabvuku.

“At my peak, I thought boxing would take me to where Mayweather is today, where I wouldn’t have to worry about my next meal or school fees for my kids,” Zvenyika told The Associated Press.

But it didn’t go according to plan. Today all I can do is be a curtain raiser for Floyd. I’m not jealous of him, he’s a great fighter. I’m just honored to fight in the same ring where he’s showing off his skills, just honored to be invited here for Floyd’s visit to our country. I am part of history.’
