Floyd Mayweather’s practice fight turned into a farce on Sunday night when his opponent John Gotti III caused a mass brawl by continuing to throw punches after the referee called it off.

Mayweather’s professional career ended in 2017 when he took his record to 50-0 with a TKO victory over Conor McGregor, but the 46-year-old has since taken part in a string of high-profile exhibition matches in the years since.

The most recent took place in Florida on Sunday night, but it turned into more of a WWE Royal Rumble than a boxing match as the arena descended into violence midway through the sixth round.

In the early stages of the fight, Mayweather had made light work of his opponent Gotti III – the grandson of the infamous Gambino crime family mob boss.

Constantly mocking him, he was met with a spate of beatings, with the 30-year-old giving little back and even being described as “helpless” by one journalist.

The referee stopped the fight midway through the sixth of the scheduled eight rounds

In between rounds, the referee had spoken to Gotti III’s corner, trying to quell their nonsense, and finally – midway through the sixth – the referee stopped the fight.

Unfortunately for the man in the middle, that caused a huge ruckus, with Gotti III initially breaking past the referee to continue punching Mayweather.

The boxing legend initially blocked and threw some fists back at his opponent before both teams climbed into the ring and a mass brawl ensued.

Mayweather then sat atop the ropes to take in the scene as nearly 50 people pushed and pushed their way through.
