Florida woman caught shoplifting $1,000 worth of Walmart merchandise tells cops she was just playing a GAME – and giggles as she says it’s ‘really fun’
A Florida woman caught shoplifting more than $1,000 worth of Walmart merchandise told police she was just playing a “game” as she giggled and said, “It was really fun.”
Amber McCann, 30, was arrested by police at a Walmart store in Palm Coast, Florida, on Monday, March 25, after walking out with a cart containing $1,030 worth of stolen items.
In bodycam footage released by the Flager County Sheriff’s Office, an officer stops McCann outside the Walmart parking lot and says, “We are currently investigating. Apparently someone went out with…’
‘A car? Yes, I am,” McCann replied casually to the office.
McCann explained that she played a game called ’21’ where she grabbed as much merchandise as she could and left without paying, in an attempt to avoid getting caught.

“It was a game I played,” she said. ‘It’s really fun!’
“Well, it’s not a game, it’s theft,” a police officer told her. “Okay, going to jail is fun.”
‘I suppose. Am I going to jail?’ she asked the officer.
“We’ll see how much stuff you took,” the officer replied.
“It’s a lot of sh**,” McCann replied, laughing.
In Florida, shoplifting from $100 to $300 can result in a first-degree misdemeanor, with up to 1 year in prison and a $1,000 fine.
Shoplifting from $300 to $20,000 can result in a third-degree felony, up to 5 years in prison and a $5,000 fine – and more than $20,000 is a second-degree felony with up to 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Initially, McCann claimed she placed the stolen items in a random car and left when she saw police in the area.
However, she later admitted that the car belonged to her boyfriend but claimed that he knew nothing about the illegal activities she was engaging in.
“I thought you said it was a random car,” one officer said.
“Yes, I know, I lied to you,” McCann replied.
‘My boyfriend doesn’t know I steal. And he doesn’t know I put all that stuff in the car,” McCann said. “So I’m really going to have trouble with him, but that’s the point.”
