A Florida deputy was sucked into a storm drain and submerged for nearly 30 seconds after trying to help another man who was being pulled in.

Escambia County was hit by severe flooding after a thunderstorm spawned a tornado on Thursday and brought heavy rain.

David Boss left work and was making his way through chest-deep water on Highway 98 when he was pulled into a drain designed to drain excess groundwater.

Escambia County Deputy William Hollingsworth was on the scene and tried to help when he was also dragged in.

The deputy’s bodycam captured the terrifying moment when they were swallowed up.

It shows Hollingsworth helping stranded motorists before Boss was sucked down the drain.

He rushes to help him get out, but is eventually pulled in himself and the footage darkens, but muffled noises are heard underwater.

The pair resurfaced 30 seconds later after traveling 100 feet in sheer disbelief at what had just happened.

Hollingsworth is heard yelling, “David, David! Can you fucking believe what just happened to us?

‘Just breathe. Just breathe dude. Oh my God! Oh thank you Jesus.’

And Boss replies, “I almost died,” before the deputy replies, “I almost died too, buddy, it sucked me in!”

“I’ve never held my breath like this before.” Boss adds, “Me neither.”

The pair then hugged and celebrated the fact that they made it out alive.

“The current was strong enough to suck in not one, but two grown men,” Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons said. Carry news.

Boss recalled the terrifying experience and said his life flashed before his eyes.

“Life flashes before your eyes,” he said.

‘That is the truth. You really think about your life when you think you’re going to die.’

He is thankful that Hollingsworth goes in there to try and save him.

Boss added, “When I came out the other side, he was there. That means he wanted to save me without thinking. He did his duty. That changed my whole view of people.”

His friend Cameron Tillman was there to pick him up during the storm and could do nothing but watch him get sucked down the drain.
