Florida Senator Marco Rubio endorsed Donald Trump for president a day before the Iowa caucuses, denouncing his home state Governor Ron DeSantis’ bid for the White House.

Rubio’s endorsement came just a day before today’s caucuses in Iowa, where residents are meeting at gyms, community centers and other public spaces to cast their votes for the Republican presidential candidate.

He kept his cards close to his chest about who he planned to support, despite fellow Florida Senator Rick Scott’s endorsement of Trump last year.

“I support Trump because (his) kind of leadership is the ONLY way we can achieve the extraordinary actions needed to solve the disaster Biden has created,” Rubio wrote on X.

“It’s time to get on with beating Biden and saving America,” he continued.

Rubio previously ran against Trump for president in 2016 before dropping out of the race after losing the Florida primary.

At the time, the Florida senator was openly hostile to Trump, calling him “chaotic” and a “con artist.” He also called him ‘reckless’ and ‘dangerous’ in the run-up to the elections.

Trump in turn branded him “Little Marco” in a series of insults on social media. But the two appeared to make amends when the former president showed his support for Rubio’s hard-fought Senate re-election bid in 2022.

Trump has been endorsed by just under half of all Republican senators and has received at least 21 endorsements from the 49-member caucus.

Senior members such as Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Josh Hawley of Missouri, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee and Tom Cotton of Arkansas have also thrown their support behind Trump.

But notably, the top ranks of the Republican Party in the Senate, including Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Whip John Thune and John Cornyn, have not yet publicly endorsed the former president.

Florida’s other senator, Rick Scott, endorsed Trump in November.

“If you look at what’s happening in the world today, this wouldn’t be happening if he were the president,” he said at the time.

DeSantis dismissed Rubio’s endorsement, saying it is evidence that Trump is aligned with the “DC establishment” during an interview with CNN on Monday morning.

‘Donald Trump is the party of the establishment in Washington DC. They are lining up behind him,” DeSantis said.

“I am the candidate who would be a change agent in Washington, DC. And I like that contrast.’

Last week, Trump thanked the highest-ranking Republican in the Senate yet for endorsing his 2024 campaign for president — Sen. John Barrasso — days before the highly anticipated Iowa caucuses.

The entire Republican leadership team of the House of Representatives has endorsed Donald Trump after House Majority Whip Tom Emmer joined his colleagues in supporting the former president in helping him launch his own bid for the speakership.

Emmer’s announcement came a day after House Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana gave his own nod to Trump after Speaker Mike Johnson and Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik openly supported the former president .

According to an American newspaper, Trump has a big lead in Iowa Emerson Poll published on Sunday.

The survey shows that the former president leads all candidates with 55 percent, which is more than 30 points ahead of the other candidates.

The same poll shows DeSantis in third place with 15 percent, behind fellow candidate Nikki Haley with 21 percent.
