A Florida man has been arrested for hurling chairs and planks from a skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan.
Jean Olivier, 33, of West Park, South Florida, was taken into custody this week after allegedly stealing a chair and other items from the roof of 555 Fifth Ave. had thrown, an office building near East 46th Street.
Olivier had reportedly entered the building to visit Haiti’s Consulate General to complain about housing before reportedly panicking.
Police reported that just after 2:25 p.m. on Friday, Olivier “unlawfully” went to the outdoor terrace of the 20-story high-rise building, where he began throwing a chair from the roof.
Witnesses captured the man on camera throwing a wooden chair over the edge before it crashed into the scaffolding below as pedestrians scrambled to safety.

Olivier followed the chair and continued to throw what looked like planks of wood and what looked like a piece of concrete.
In the video, which has since gone viral, the objects were seen floating through the air, carried by the wind.

Another video taken by spectators shows Olivier waving his arms to the crowd from the roof.
The viral video, posted by Conor Strong via Storyful, circulated on social media and left viewers in disbelief at the unhinged behavior they witnessed.
‘Bring back psychiatric institutions. It is everywhere. Every day,” one user responded to X.
‘My ex did things like this during a mood swing. Once because I bought new shoes for myself, but nothing came home for her. most of my stuff went out the window quickly,” another viewer wrote in an ambiguous comment.
Many viewers expressed concern about the New Yorkers below, with one writing, “Is he arrested? That could kill someone downstairs.”
