A Florida driver who brandished a machete at a motorist and slashed his face during a wild road incident has been arrested.

Luis Ruiz-Herrera, 61, has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after footage emerged of a man turning the huge knife towards another road user who had stopped his scooter in a lane ahead.

The manic driver slashed the victim’s left cheek with the machete, Miami Spring police said Tuesday. The victim was not seriously injured.

Video captured by another driver’s dashcam shows the victim jumping off the scooter and stepping back slightly when approached by the machete-wielding man.

“(The victim) did what I call his best ‘Matrix’ impersonation because he wandered back, and he just got caught with the tip,” police chief Armando Guzman said NBC6.

Luis Ruiz-Herrera, 61, was seen dismembering a man on a scooter with a huge machete during a wild traffic incident in Miami last week

He jumped out of his car with a huge knife and lunged at the victim who stopped his scooter on the road next to Ruiz-Herrera.

Police believe Ruiz-Herrera was the man behind the attack and say he fled the scene shortly afterwards, but officers were able to identify him by his license plate number.

Miami police tracked him down and arrested him shortly after the incident.

The attack occurred at the intersection of NW 42 Avenue and NW 36 Street in Miami, when both the victim and suspect were stuck in traffic.

“The crime arose from a road rage incident and was captured on video by a third motorist who was also in traffic directly behind the scooter,” police said in a statement.

But Miami police did not say what exactly led to the road rage incident.

Ruiz Herrera was arrested at his residence and reportedly expressed remorse when he confessed to the crime.

He said he brandished the machete because the victim had verbally attacked his mother. 7News Miami reported.

At court, Ruiz-Herra was given a $10,000 bond and ordered to stay away from the victim.

“You must stay away from that person, I order you to have no contact,” the judge said during a hearing.

Guzman said confrontations over road rage are simply not worth it. He advised those who encounter road rage incidents to move on and let them go.

“When you see it with your own eyes, it’s quite shocking,” Guzman said. “Someone interrupts me personally, I just let it go.”

The incident is part of a series of road rage trials in the area, following a shooting that sent an innocent driver to the hospital last week, and another involving a driver throwing coins in another driveway last month.
