Florida dad of four Nate Davenport is fatally electrocuted after jumping into a fountain at Harbourside Center to save two of his children who were being zapped by electric currents: Heartbroken family mourns Navy vet who ‘took a hit for his kids’

A Florida father of four has died after heroically saving his children from being electrocuted by a shopping center fountain.

Nate Davenport, 45, of Jupiter was at the Harborside Place shopping and dining complex in Jupiter with his family Sunday afternoon when at least two of the children started playing in the splash pad.

The retired US Navy fighter pilot and businessman soon heard his children screaming as the electric current whipped them into the water. WPBF reports this.

The devoted father reached into the water and pulled his sons, aged 8 and 11, but was electrocuted himself.

The brothers and another child were injured, as were Davenport and another adult.

Davenport never regained consciousness and died at Jupiter Medical Center before his wife Amy and children could say goodbye, WPBF reported.

The children were taken to St Mary’s Medical Center where they are being monitored for elevated enzymes.

“The kids started screaming, ‘We’re getting shocked, we’re getting shocked,’ and so he rushed in to save them.”‘ Davenport’s mother, Mary Davenport, told WPBF.

‘He took a blow for his children. We had 45 years with him. God blessed us with him. He is a wonderful man,” the heartbroken mother said of her hero son.

Davenport worked with his mother Mary and father Robert at the family business RGD Consulting Engineers.

It was not immediately clear what led to the fatal electrocution.

A spokesperson for Harborside Place said the incident did not occur on the splash pad, but in the fountain, where there are signs warning “no climbing” and “no swimming,” WPTV reported.

Mary Davenport added that the family had received widespread support from the local community.

‘We get so many calls and emails. From clients, from friends, from other contractors, from subcontractors who just poured their hearts out to me to say how much Nate meant to them and the impact he had on their lives. And so that’s the blessing for us,” she told the outlet.
