A couple are left heartbroken after their two dogs were electrocuted when a power cable fell in their garden during a storm.

Home surveillance footage shows the dogs, Max and Vasco, in their backyard after their owners released them during a break in the storm.

After a sudden power outage, the North Miami couple rushed outside to discover a fallen power line in their yard, fearing the worst for their beloved pups.

β€œMe and my husband went to look and the dogs were lying there, face down, floating in the little yard,” said the woman, who asked not to be identified. NBC6.

The street dogs were rushed to an emergency facility, but were killed instantly on the spot.

The grieving couple is now demanding answers from Florida Power & Light, claiming the poles were worked on for two months before the tragedy.

FPL acknowledged the incident in a statement and deferred further investigative details to the North Miami Police Department.

However, police said the matter is being handled directly by FPL and the homeowner.

South Florida was lashed by 20 inches of rain on Thursday, raising the threat of flash flooding.

This followed Wednesday’s heavy rains that caused widespread damage, including at least one water rescue, flooded homes, stranded vehicles, school closures and even cats stuck in trees.
