  • The Florida Department of Education on Wednesday approved a rule expanding Ron DeSantis’ so-called “don’t say gay” law
  • It now bans the teaching of gender identity and sexual orientation in all public school classes

The Florida Board of Education on Wednesday approved an expansion of Governor Ron DeSantis’ rule banning the teaching of gender identity and sexual orientation in all classrooms.

The Parental Rights in Education Act was signed into law last year by the governor and banned instruction on gender identity for children from kindergarten through third grade, but now students of all ages cannot be taught these topics in Florida public schools .

Critics call these rules the “don’t say gay” law, claiming that it harms children who identify as gay and transgender.

The rule coming through Florida’s education department comes as DeSantis travels through the early primary contest state of South Carolina, where he railed against “awakened” issues like transgenderism.
