More than 100 flights to and from Sydney’s domestic and international airports were canceled on Friday due to the extreme weather.
The storm, which hit the airport around 2 p.m., was the cause of most flight cancellations, although some had been canceled or diverted before then.
Domestic lights affected included those to Canberra, Armidale, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Mildura, Adelaide, Brisbane, Albury, Hobart and many other cities and towns.
International flights canceled include those to Port Vila in Vanuatu, Beijing and Qingdao in China and Rarotonga in the Cook Islands.
Despite a possible backlog, things look better on Saturday, but 13 domestic flights have already been canceled.
No international departures have been canceled for Saturday at this time.
