Flight chaos as woman ‘attacks airline staff’ on plane bound from Gold Coast to Melbourne

There were chaotic scenes at Gold Coast Airport on New Year's Eve as a Victorian woman was arrested after allegedly assaulting airline staff.

The 23-year-old woman was arrested by Australian Federal Police (AFP) after allegedly assaulting crew members on board a flight bound for Melbourne.

The alleged attack took place before the flight took off, with police boarding the plane and arresting the woman.

She was accused of assaulting and threatening with violence or intimidating a member of the airline crew.

If convicted, the woman faces ten years behind bars.

AFP Chief Inspector Josh Kinghorn said there was no tolerance for violent or offensive behavior at the airport or during a flight.

'Other passengers and crew members should not be exposed to bad behavior; it can be quite frightening to be in an enclosed space with someone who is abusive or aggressive,” he said.

“These incidents can also cause delays for other travelers and staff.”

The woman is due to appear at the Coolangatta Magistrates' Court on March 25.
