In the clip, which has been viewed more than 624,000 times to date, Ale wastes little time delving into her insights.

“Let’s talk about the things you shouldn’t do on a plane if you come from a flight attendant.

‘The first tip is: try not to fall asleep before you leave. I know traveling can be tiring and sometimes you just want to get on a plane and go straight to sleep.

‘So not only is it not good for your ears to fall asleep before you take off, but you also have to remember that taxiing is one of the most crucial phases of flight.

“You want to make sure that you are fully conscious and fully awake in the event of an emergency or if you need to evacuate.”

But Ale, who has been in the industry for almost a decade, didn’t stop with her tips, adding: ‘The next thing is, don’t consume your own alcohol. It is against federal regulations to consume your own alcohol, because we must ensure that you drink responsibly.

‘And if you drink your own alcohol, we can’t really track that. It is a federal matter and not an aviation matter.”

Last but not least, she concluded, “One of the most obvious is that you should not walk around barefoot on any airline or plane.

‘If you decide to take off your shoes in your seat, that’s a different story, but don’t walk into the toilet barefoot.

‘You never know what you’re stepping on and the floor isn’t always clean.’

Her invaluable insight was soon flooded with comments from viewers who admitted they were guilty of sleeping before they were on air.

One person wrote: ‘Omgggg, I fall asleep straight away… but I justify it by being an incredibly light sleeper and my gut feeling of knowing when to wake up.’

A second person added: ‘If I don’t fall asleep before takeoff, I won’t sleep. But I can usually sleep through the entire flight if I fall asleep as soon as I sit down lol.”

Another commented: ‘I try to sleep before takeoff because my anxiety is so high on takeoff/landing.’

Someone else admitted: ‘I sleep best before I take off, especially when taxiing.’

According to Travel + Leisure: ‘It is best to stay awake until after takeoff for two reasons: ear barotrauma and evacuation safety.

‘Ear barotrauma, also called airplane ear, is the tension that builds up in your ear due to differences in air pressure between your environment and your inner ear.

‘This imbalance can cause your eardrum to bulge painfully.

‘There’s a second reason why you shouldn’t nap during takeoff and landing, and it has to do with your safety.

“If you’re asleep when an emergency occurs, it can take a while to get your bearings and respond appropriately, and that can be a problem.”

Ale’s insight comes amid the ongoing debate over airline etiquette, with passengers recently complaining about seat-switching tactics and ‘very large seatmates’.
