Flight attendant reveals the REAL reason the crew greets passengers as they board: ‘It’s not because we’re polite’

A flight attendant has revealed the secret reason why cabin crew greet customers as they board – and it’s not just to be polite.

Rania, from Austria, is a flight attendant at the Hungarian budget airline Wizz Air.

The professional said cabin crew are asked to say “hello” to each passenger so they can assess their suitability to fly.

Flying while sick or drunk is a health risk because it can cause disruptions and affect the safety of everyone on board.

“Did you know that your flight attendant greets you not only as a courtesy, but also to check whether you are too drunk or sick to fly?” Rania said.

‘It is also to see who can help us in an emergency.’

Crew members are trained to look for ABPs (able-bodied persons).

ABPs are those who ideally travel alone, have no mobility problems, speak English (or the local language) and look like they are fit enough to open emergency doors.

Many passengers shared their shock at the news.

‘I knew [they] were judging me! But I thought it was to see if I looked like a threat to security,” one man said.

“So this is why they all stare straight into my soul the moment I step foot on the plane,” another commented.

‘I always tell it [cabin crew] that I am a nurse, they are so grateful for that,” one woman added.
