Flavor Flav is making mental health a priority for its fans in honor of World Mental Health Day, offering free AI therapy to help others focus on their well-being.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, the hip-hop legend, 65, revealed he was working with new app Sonia, an AI platform that offers 20-minute therapy sessions.
He also shared his personal connection to mental health, revealing that therapy has been an important part of his journey to sobriety as he approaches his four-year milestone.
‘October is an important month for my mental health. Next week I will have been sober for 4 years from alcohol. And today is Mental Health Day. My mental health is an important part of my journey to sobriety,” Flav wrote, opening up about his commitment to self-care.
He revealed that he relies on not just one, but two therapists to help him maintain balance amid a hectic schedule. ‘I’m talking to a therapist. In fact, I’m talking to two. With my crazy schedule and constant travel, it’s essential for me to get that support.”

Flav has long been a trailblazer and in his post he urged fans to prioritize their mental health, offering them free access to a therapy platform for the day.

In January 2023, Flavor Flav opened up about his intense battle with addiction during a candid conversation on DJ Akademiks’ Off The Record Spotify podcast.
The star revealed that at the height of his addiction he was spending as much as $2,600 a day on drugs, which equates to almost $1 million a year over six years.
“I’ve been supporting myself really well while I’ve been on that shit, you feel me? I hid it,” said the 64-year-old, whose real name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr. is.
He admitted that despite his heavy drug use, he managed to keep the extent of his addiction a secret.
“There was a time when I spent between $2,400 and $2,600 a day for six years. You do the math. That was the amount I spent on drugs.”

Flav also revealed that even though he made money selling drugs, he was his “best customer.”
“I had a lot of money, but I just did the wrong things with it,” he reflected.
He also talked about how drug culture was glorified in the music of his time. ‘In the past, when we kept drug files, we talked about selling drugs. It was about who could make the most money, who was fed up with the hassle. It was a game for all the hustlers.”
Now recovering, Flav reflects on his journey with a sense of purpose. “God wanted me to live because He knew I was a mouthpiece to the world. I can teach people about the mistakes I made.”
Flavor Flav has had a tumultuous history with substance abuse.
In 2015, he was arrested for driving under the influence of cocaine on a Las Vegas freeway, and Clark County prosecutors also charged him with speeding and having an open container of alcohol.
His struggles with addiction date back decades.
In 1993, Flav was charged with domestic violence and possession of cocaine and marijuana, which led him to seek treatment at the Betty Ford Center for crack cocaine addiction.
He later re-entered rehab at the Long Island Center for Recovery in 1997.

Despite his troubled past, Flavor Flav made a major comeback to the public eye in 2004 when he joined the cast of VH1’s The Surreal Life.
His romance with fellow cast member Brigitte Nielsen became a pop culture phenomenon, leading to more reality TV opportunities.
These include Strange Love and Flavor of Love, which further cemented his reality TV fame.
