An eviction filing was filed in Jackson County on Friday for a mother whose son met his death after she “carelessly” removed window stops.
Police discovered five-year-old Grayson O’Connor on Nov. 27 near 10th Street and Grand Boulevard.
The little boy reportedly fell from the 17th floor window of his home at the Grand Boulevard Loft Apartments in Kansas City, Missouri, and his death was ruled “suspicious,” according to investigators.
His mother, Corrinne O’Connor, 27, has been identified as a person of interest after a neighbor claimed she found Grayson covered in bruises at a bus stop months earlier.
The apartment building’s landlord filed an eviction notice against the boy’s mother, claiming the woman removed the window the same day Grayson was found dead.
Police discovered five-year-old Grayson O’Connor near 10th Street and Grand Boulevard on Nov. 27 after he reportedly fell from the 17th floor window of the Grand Boulevard Loft Apartments.
The apartment building’s landlord has filed an eviction notice against the boy’s mother, claiming the woman removed the window the same day Grayson was found dead.
Corrinne is also accused of endangering the welfare of her child. KCTV5 reported that police officers have responded to their apartment “at least eight times in the past six years.”
Records showed six of these calls were due to disturbances, while the other two were welfare checks.
Grayson was found dead by a passerby in the alley of the apartment complex around noon.
Officers quickly noticed an open window high up on the 17th floor when they found the boy.
Detectives and officers then went upstairs with the manager and knocked on the door.
They then heard the voice of a woman allegedly calling for help, a detective wrote in an earlier affidavit.
Court documents show that when Corrinne was asked where her son was, she replied, “Out the window.”
Police said she was then taken to the hospital and identified as the only person of interest in the suspicious death investigation.

Alayna Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for KCPD, said The Kansas City star that a medical examiner has not yet determined Grayson’s cause of death.
A neighbor, Kelsey Grizib, revealed that she found the young boy alone at a nearby bus stop with bruises on both his head and feet.
Grizib then cared for Grayson for several days before he was returned to his mother by a social worker, she said.
The eviction file stated that Corrinne had “carelessly” removed window stops from the apartment’s windows.
Employees of the apartment complex stated that during the investigation, the state found that the apartment was unlivable due to “very poor sanitary conditions.”
Multiple attempts to have the mother removed from the building by law enforcement and mental health services, but she has refused to leave the building.

The eviction case is set to go to trial on January 25 and the current status of the suspicious death investigation is unknown at this time.
Since Grayson’s tragic death, court documents have been sealed and turned over to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.
Some documents were accidentally posted online in December saying the boy’s mother was being charged, but were later deleted. FOX4 reported.
A small memorial has been erected near where Grayson’s body was found. It is filled with stuffed animals, pictures, toys and candles in honor of the young boy.
A protest was also organized last month as demonstrators called for transparency in the ongoing investigation. Grayson would have celebrated his sixth birthday in December.
“Yes, yes, and I’m angry. Everyone is angry, the building is angry, everyone is angry,” Grzib said KMBC.
