Poppy says that the decisive part of a good Yorkshire pudding has nothing to do with the pudding itself, but with the oil.

The oil should only be removed when it is boiling

Poppy says it’s essential to wait until the oil is very hot in whatever pan you’re using for your Yorkshires before adding the batter.

Made with eggs, flour and milk, Yorkshire puddings have long been combined with beef for a traditional Sunday roast.

But Poppy says, “A Yorkshire pudding should be on all roast dishes, not just beef.”

She added that she serves them with almost any roast: from chicken to lamb.

It just wouldn’t be the same without a Yorkshire pudding.

Poppy shows her followers how to make the popular dish in five easy steps.

First, mix the egg into the flour and gradually add the milk, beating until smooth with a simple hand mixer.

Then comes her best advice for making “the perfect Yorkie.” She says to use a muffin pan for best results, then pour a little oil into each slot before tilting the pan to make sure it covers the bottom.

The next step is to heat in the oven until the fat is piping hot – in her online TikTok videos, you can see the oil boiling as she takes it out of the oven.

She said, “You want the batter to almost start to foam when you pour it in, so you get the height you want from your puddings.”

This is the make or break stage – if the oil isn’t hot enough, the puddings won’t rise and be wonderfully crisp as they should be.

The fourth stage is to pour the batter into each of the slots in the pan, before finally cooking the puddings until they have risen and are golden brown all over.

The perfect pudding should be crisp on the outside, fully cooked, and soft in the center.

In 2021, Poppy released her own cookbook, Poppy Cooks: The Food You Need, in which she has an entire chapter on how to perfect a Sunday roast.
