Under the post, users of X, formerly Twitter, gave their opinions.
One tweeted: ‘That doesn’t even take into account how overrated they are. For $10 you should be able to get a premium burger from a more expensive place. Drinks and fries plus $5.”
“5 dollars for a little boy is robbery. It’s literally just a potato and some salt. It cost them a quarter to make,” wrote another.
Someone else said: ‘Fast food becoming a luxury meal is a sign of the times.’
The viral receipt arrives in the same week. A Five Guys customer’s video complaining about the extremely high prices of items at the fast food chain has resurfaced on multiple social media platforms.
Michelle Newell posted the clip to TikTok, explaining that she and her husband paid $42 for two cheeseburgers, a side of fries and two milkshakes.
The visibly upset patron told viewers that the couple had visited a Five Guys location for lunch on Saturday afternoon. Newell shared her anger last year, but a check with DailyMail.com Friday evening confirmed it is still just as expensive to buy the same meal.
Newell said she ordered a regular cheeseburger for herself, another mushroom cheeseburger for her husband and a side of fries. The couple also received two milkshakes.
She said that “we are absolutely ready” and that companies are “playing with their customers.”
Iain Ross-Mackenzie, director of operations-APAC at Five Guys International explained that the food was so expensive because it was all fresh and not frozen
Chad Murrell, one of the sons of Five Guys founder Jerry Murrell, said, “I won’t name names, but other restaurants just don’t give a satisfying amount of fries. ‘We always go the extra mile. I say: charge them and make sure they get their money’s worth’
Although expensive, Five Guys has long delighted diners by putting a small pile of seemingly free extra fries in the bottom of their takeout bags.
For years, the fast food favorite – which has 1,700 diners worldwide – claimed they were simply nicer than their competitors.
