Five budget EVs coming soon, including a £17,000 Renault Twingo and a £22,000 Fiat Panda
The years of limited choice in electric cars are long gone: this year there were now 100 different electric car models on British roads.
And one of these was Britain’s cheapest new EV, the Dacia Spring which cost £14,495 new.
So, with the new year quickly approaching, what budget-friendly new electric cars are hitting the market that will be especially attractive to young drivers? And will any of them be as cheap as spring?
Here are five wallet-friendly EVs to look out for.
1. Renault Twingo: from £17,000
The dinky Twingo also gives you a range of around 300 kilometers, is a practical five-door and has a claimed efficiency of 10 kilometers per kWh.
Pricing for the new electric Twingo is yet to be confirmed, but is expected to cost less than £17,000 when it goes on sale in early 2026.
This is the new EV that comes closest to stealing the cheapest EV crown of the spring, but it will likely fall just short.

In addition to the affordable price, the dinky Twingo also offers you a range of approximately 300 kilometers, a practical five-door and a claimed efficiency of 10 kilometers per kWh.
Not to mention the funky retro-inspired design is sure to win over fans looking for a cute city car.
2. Cupra Raval: from £25,000
The Raval will share parts with the Volkswagen ID2all (which we’ll get into) and will be the entry point into the Cupra brand
The small electric car isn’t as cheap as the Twingo, but is still affordable for a new electric car in today’s market at around £25,000
The Cupra Raval offers a range of approximately 430 kilometers, 234 hp and a very futuristic and personal interior
If you can’t wait until 2026 for a stylish urban EV, then you might want to consider the new Cupra Raval.
The small electric car isn’t as cheap as the Twingo, but is still affordable for a new electric car in today’s market at around £25,000.
You get a range of about 430 kilometers, 234 hp and a very futuristic and personal interior.
Cupra’s USP is its racing history, but the Raval is moving from the sporting world into the sustainability game with recycled polymers and bio-based materials to become an ‘eco-conscious vehicle’.
The Raval will share parts with the Volkswagen ID2all (which we’ll talk about later) and will be the gateway to the Cupra brand.
3. Volkswagen ID2all: from £21,000
The production ID2all will be nice and cheap, costing around less than £21,150 (€25,000) and larger than the Polo
Expect 223 hp and a claimed range of 450 kilometers. And a GTI variant will also follow
ID2all production will be nice and cheap, with a price tag of roughly less than £21,150 (€25,000).
Based on the concept car, the 2all will be slightly shorter than the VW Polo, but have a longer wheelbase, making it more spacious inside.
It will have a luggage compartment of 490 liters and will be the first model to be built on the VW Group’s long-awaited MEB entry-level platform.
Expect 223 hp and a claimed range of 450 kilometers. And a GTI variant will also follow.
4. Renault 5 E-Tech and Renault 4: from £25,000 and £28,000
Renault is currently busy redesigning some of its most beloved retro cars for the modern electric era.
And here are two for the price of one: the Renault 5 E-Tech and the Renault 4.
Technically, the Renault 4 has already been seen and reviewed, but since it won’t arrive to customers in early 2025, we’ve put it in there along with its R4 sibling.
The new Renault 4, on the other hand, has just had its big unveiling at the Paris Motor Show.
The R4 E-Tech has a ‘retro-futuristic’ design and will be able to do the same versatile work as the original ’60s legend.
Expect a range of 250 miles and a starting price of around £28,000 – so it’s on the pricier side of this collection, but for that you get maximum functionality.
The price of the 5 has not yet been confirmed, but is expected to start from a much cheaper £23,000. For this you get a range of 400 kilometers, 148 hp and a fantastic appearance.
The reviews of the updated 5 have already been fantastic, and it will probably be as popular as the resurrected Fiat 500 and the new Minis.
5. Fiat Panda: From under £22,000
To celebrate 125 years of car production, Fiat has unveiled a new Grande Panda – the first of a new car family designed after the beloved 1980s model
Fiat features a glossy black trim with the three-dimensional Panda spelled out, keeping the 80s feel alive
It looks like 2025 will be the year of reincarnation, as the Fiat Panda marks yet another retired nameplate brought back in electric form.
The upcoming fourth-generation Fiat Panda is a new hatchback that builds on the popularity of the old Panda, and will have a range of 200 miles and a very affordable price tag.
The exact price is yet to be confirmed, but will likely match the £21,990 of its Citroen e-C3 sibling.
The angular, 4×4-style supermini will have a 44kW battery, produce 111bhp and offer ‘comfortable family living and modern urban mobility’.
After the Grande Panda, Fiat will add a new member to the Panda family every year until 2027.
