Five British tourists have been rescued from their motorboat that burst into flames while sailing off the coast of the Greek island of Zakynthos.

One of the passengers reportedly suffered burns when the craft caught fire some 80 meters offshore.

It’s unclear what started the fire, but flames quickly engulfed the craft, forcing the crew to bail out before the ship was completely engulfed by the inferno.

Fortunately, another boat noticed the crew was in distress and sailed to the rescue to help the British scramble aboard before returning them to shore for medical treatment.

The sinking remains of the ship can be seen with smoke and flames after the crew is taken out

Their escape comes just weeks after a 19-year-old British man was killed in a horrific quad bike accident on the island.

The tragedy occurred in Mesos Gerakari village last month when the quad bike reportedly veered suddenly off course, fatally injuring the teen.

It’s unclear if the teenage driver made a bad steering input or if the bike had a mechanical problem, but the man was jumped from the vehicle and then crushed under it.

Another 19-year-old passenger was involved in the accident but suffered only minor bruises.

Both were wearing helmets, ERT Zakynthos reported, and would be moving at a low speed.

Emergency services arrived at the scene and the stricken driver was taken to Zakynthos hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are now conducting a preliminary investigation to determine the events leading up to the death.
