Joshua Powell died suddenly during a $10,000 practice retreat
A fit and healthy 27-year-old man who died suddenly during a $10,000 training retreat has said goodbye to his loved ones.
Joshua Powell, from Melbourne, was taking part in The Commander’s Passage fitness boot camp near Currimundi Lake on the Sunshine Coast when he died on October 13.
Mr Powell collapsed while training next to the lake. Other participants of the fitness camp rushed to nearby cafes to find a defibrillator Sunshine Coast daily reported, but he could not be saved.
His cause of death is unclear.
Powell’s heartbroken mother, Venessa Powell, said her son was in good shape, jogged every day and was not overweight.
She remembered the last conversation she had with her son.
“We had one last hug and a kiss goodbye,” Mrs. Powell said.
“He said ‘see you Monday’.”

The three-day Commander’s Passage boot camp costs $10,000 and was founded by Army veteran Curtis Tofa. There are no indications of misconduct by the retreat or other attendees.
Powell’s funeral was held in Melbourne on Friday.
His mother described her eldest son as the kind of person who made friends easily.
“He was a kind boy and he grew into a kind man,” she said.
“Joshua had a lot of quirks that would drive us crazy, and how we miss those times now.”
Mr Powell’s father, Phillip Powell, said the day his son was born was the best day of his life.
His coffin was decorated with white roses and friends wrote touching messages on it.
He will be buried on Saturday at Greta’s cemetery.
