Fit and active Lotta went to hospital for routine surgery on her unreliable hip. When she woke up, she realized that her life would never be the same

An active mum has woken up after routine surgery to find her left foot ‘non-functional’, leaving doctors baffled.

Swedish Lotta Kallin underwent hip surgery on January 11 that was supposed to “end her suffering” due to persistent pain.

Doctors attributed the lack of feeling and movement to the anesthesia she had been given, but panic set in when nothing changed after the anesthesia wore off.

Although she can no longer continue her favorite sports, such as powerlifting martial arts and stand-up paddleboarding, the side effect also puts her at risk of losing her job.

Her Melbourne daughter Jeanette revealed the doctor who was due to operate on Ms Kallin had withdrawn just days before the operation after falling ill.

The sudden news put the mother in a precarious situation.

She could either deal with the pain while waiting for another appointment months later, or go to another doctor she had never met.

“Because she had already discussed this with her work, she chose to accept this new, unknown doctor,” Jeanette wrote in a message to GoFundMe.

The operation did not take place in Australia.

After spending a week in the hospital and seeing no change in her condition, Jeanette claims the hospital has “never seen anything like this and they don’t know what happened to her foot.”

Ms Kallin has since been advised by neuroscientists to bide her time and hope the nerves will reconnect on their own, but she still faces the prospect of not being able to walk normally again.

To make matters worse, she will no longer work as a receptionist from March 25, after her employer refused to extend her leave.

In addition to losing her active lifestyle, the mother is also faced with losing her job as a receptionist on March 25 because her employer refused to extend her leave.

Jeanette revealed that her mother has overcome the many obstacles life has thrown her way and is “trying to stay positive.”

“She fought breast cancer and won, had her motorcycle stolen, opened her own beauty salon and changed careers in her 50s,” she wrote.

“On top of that, COVID happened and she had to close her business and go even further into debt.

“My mom just can’t catch a break. She is now worried about how she will get a new job for the future and how she will pay the rent, food and loans.

‘All she wants is to concentrate on her foot rehabilitation. Don’t worry about money problems.’
