First votes of Election Day cast in Dixville Notch and result is NOT what people are expecting

Voting had officially begun on Election Day when six registered voters in the town of Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, cast their ballots just after midnight.

The results in the small town were literally too close to predict, as the six voters were split three-to-three between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

It’s actually a sharp change from 2020, when Joe Biden swept away all five people who voted against Trump.

Republican Governor Kelly Ayotte defeated her Democratic opponent 5-1, while Democrat Maggie Goodlander won the city’s congressional district result 4-2.

Dixville Notch has returned the nation’s first primary election results since 1960, with voting taking place at midnight on Election Day.

With such a small sample, the vote generally does not indicate how the election will end.

The voters, all Republicans, all cast their votes Nikki Haley in the Republican primaries, helping her sweep former President Donald Trump and all the other candidates.

Many Granite State voters will wake up Tuesday morning to the results of the election in Dixville Notch, with other polling places opening as residents head to work.

The vote took place in a new location, the living room of Tillotson House, while the Balsams Resort was being renovated. It made for a congenial setting, with an 11-month-old golden retriever named Maxine greeting the media and voters.

Just 20 miles from the Canadian border, The Balsams opened their closely watched polling place in the living room of the Tillotson House to a roomful of journalists documenting the votes of the city’s handful of voters.

Before the pandemic, the small New Hampshire town had double the population it has today, with a dozen ballots from 2010 and even more in previous years.

Les Otten, the principal owner and developer of the Balsams Resort, spoke during the primary about how unique the event is.

‘It’s special. That is really true,” said Otten. “This is what should be happening in every community in the United States, where there is 100% participation and everyone votes.”

“None of the six of us can complain about the outcome of the election because we participated.”

Dixville Notch caters to snowmobilers and cross-country skiers in the winter, and golfers and hikers in the summer.

For the primary, there were four registered Republicans and two undeclared voters.
