The horrifying moment fireworks exploded in a teenage boy’s face on Christmas Day has been captured on CCTV.
The 19-year-old was pronounced dead at a gated construction site in Kalkallo, Melbourne’s north, at 9.10pm on Wednesday.
CCTV footage showed the explosion, while another camera captured a man, believed to be a friend of the victim, screaming shortly afterwards.
“F***,” you heard the man shout.
The teenager, from Whittlesea in Melbourne’s north-east, died immediately from critical injuries he suffered in the blast and it is understood the fireworks exploded in his face.
His devastated parents watched him collect his car on Boxing Day morning.
Acting Senior Sergeant Fiona Parvin said she could not say whether the fireworks were homemade.
“It is extremely painful for the family and of course for the friends of this person,” Sergeant Parvin said 7News.
Victoria Police have not confirmed whether the fireworks (pictured exploding) were homemade

“It’s a day they’ll never see the same way again. It’s tragic.’
Act Snr. Sergeant Parvin reminded the public that discharging fireworks is illegal in Victoria except by licensed pyrotechnicians.
“Fireworks should not be handled by the public,” she said.
‘Don’t touch them, don’t pick them up, they’re explosive.
“They are very volatile, they have to be handed over by professionals.”
Residents confirmed there was a large hole in the fencing surrounding the construction site, which is located next to a residential area.
Detectives are investigating and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
