Fires, floods, rain to batter Australia as cyclone forms off the coast: Here’s what the weather will be like in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne…

Fires, floods, a month of rain and a possible cyclone are all set to hit eastern Australia in the coming days.

Tasmania is set to experience heavy rain and possible thunderstorms this weekend as firefighters continue to battle raging bushfires in Central Queensland.

Meanwhile, meteorologists are closely monitoring a possible tropical cyclone forming near the Solomon Islands.

Parts of Tasmania will experience well above average rain from Friday evening.

Thunderstorms and damaging winds may affect southern and southeastern Tasmania, while showers are expected to hang over Melbourne and Adelaide

“That rain is due to a deep low-pressure system,” said Weatherzone meteorologist Yoska Hernandez.

“There will be heavy rain this weekend, which will be more intense in southern parts of Tasmania, including Hobart.”

“That system is expected to produce winds in excess of 100mm and strong winds possibly exceeding 100 to 120 km/h by Sunday, especially in southern parts of the state.”

Central and eastern Tasmania, including Hobart, could also see scattered thunderstorms.

October is typically Tasmania’s wettest month, with an average rainfall of 62.1mm.

The rainfall of more than 100 mm could cause flooding and wind damage, especially in the east and southeast.

Rain is also expected in Adelaide and Melbourne this weekend.

Both cities will enjoy a sunny Thursday before cloudy conditions develop from Friday.

Melbourne is expected to see showers on Sunday with a minimum temperature of just 10 degrees Celsius.

Showers are forecast to hit Adelaide on Saturday, before partly clearing clouds on Sunday for a sunny start to the week on Monday.

There will be no rain in Perth this weekend, but it will be cloudy on Saturday and skies will remain gray until next week.

Meanwhile, favorable weather could help tackle fires in Central Queensland.

Late on Wednesday evening, residents near Oyster Creek, north of Bundaberg, were issued an emergency warning to evacuate.

People on properties between Uxbridge Road, Oyster Creek Road, Muller Road and Coast Road, including Kirchner Road, were asked to leave immediately.

“There is a large, fast-moving fire between Oyster Creek Road and Muller Road. This is expected to impact Oyster Creek Road and Kirchner Road within the next hour,” Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said.

‘LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. Your life could be in danger. It will soon be too dangerous to drive.”

Watch and Act warnings have been extended to surrounding areas of Deepwater and Baffle Creek.

Ms Hernandez said stable temperatures and increased humidity mean the weather will not worsen the fires.

“We expect temperatures today and tomorrow to be in the low 20s, so not particularly hot,” she said.

“Northerly winds can be a concern, but they hold a lot of moisture.”

Nearby Brisbane is expected to remain cloudy through Saturday before sunny skies and a high of 31 degrees Celsius arrive on Sunday.

Parts of Sydney will be on high alert for bushfires, with hot and dry conditions expected to lead to extreme dangers.

“This weekend will be mostly dry, sunny and warm,” Ms. Hernandez said.

“So temperatures are expected to be around 20 degrees on Saturday and around 20 degrees on Sunday.

‘A trough will pass this weekend, causing the wind to increase on Saturday.

“Sunday will be drier and hotter due to westerly winds in the wake of the trough and fire danger is expected to be extreme for the Sydney region.”

The clouds hanging over Canberra on Thursday are expected to clear on Friday.

Mostly sunny conditions are expected on Saturday, ahead of a sunny Sunday.

Highs for the weekend will peak at 29 degrees Celsius on Saturday, before dropping to just 18 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a possible tropical cyclone could form off the east coast.

“There is a chance that a tropical cyclone could form near the Solomon Islands early next week,” Ms. Hernandez said.

‘It should move towards Australia, but stay well offshore. It is not expected to affect the mainland and will remain in the sea.”
