A woman is fighting for her life in a coma and four others suffered horrific burns when a backyard fire pit exploded during a party at an $8 million beachfront home.

Ambulance crews rushed to Calvert Parade in Newport on Sydney’s northern beaches around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, where a small group was holding an Easter rally.

The fire pit they huddled around exploded as it was being refilled with ethanol.

Several guests caught by the fireball were able to dive into a backyard pool, which paramedics said reduced the severity of their injuries.

But a 26-year-old woman suffered severe burns to her face, neck and chest and was rushed by ambulance to the Royal North Shore Hospital, where she was put into an induced coma.

Four others were also taken to the same hospital with a 55-year-old man suffering burns to his stomach, while another 54-year-old man was burned to his face and arms.

Both remain in a stable condition.

Two others suffered minor burns that did not require treatment.

Fortunately, burn victims were able to jump into the pool, which paramedics say reduced their injuries (the house is pictured)

‘It’s a fluke, isn’t it? You have a wonderful Easter and it will be over soon.’

Another neighbor, Larry Bulgin, said it was “a horrible thing to happen.”

“There were a lot of lights flashing past our house and we thought something serious had happened,” he said.

The owners of the two-story Newport house paid $8.5 million for it in 2020.

It has a backyard deck overlooking the beach.
