Fire Knight Queelign questline walkthrough and steps in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
Fire Knight Queelign is an NPC in Elden Ring‘S Shadow of the Erdtree DLC – an enemy guy who will give you some grief while wielding a flaming spear. As is the case with almost all NPCs in the Elden Ring DLC, this guy who is in love with Messmer has a multi-step side quest, as long as you know where to find him.
He can be ruthless as he keeps attacking and barely gives you room to breathe. But following his mission to the end will net you one of two very good rewards.
In this Elden Ring DLC Guide, we show you every step how to complete the Fire Knight Queelign missionincluded all Fire Knight Queelign locations and an explanation of whether to give him the Iris of Grace or the Iris of Occultation.
Fire Knight Queelign First Location in Elden Ring DLC
The first time you encounter Fire Knight Queelign is indoors Beluratalthough it is completely missable if you don’t walk the right path.
Of the Small private altar Place of graceeither kill or wait for the ridiculous sturdy knight with a sword in each hand to walk past, then go up the stairs and make a right turn past some rubble. There will be a few shadow people to kill – these are the ones who get angry as soon as they see you, rather than the passive mumbling-in-the-corner-and-happy-to-be-stabbed-in-the-back ones – then you come to an area with a huge tree in the middle.
Fire Knight Queelign will barge in after a few seconds, babbling about how “you won’t dodge Messmer’s flame.” His attacks include a ranged homing fireball, a standard jab with his spear, a jumping jab, and an upswing that culminates in a fiery explosion. If you do get hit once, though, make sure to put some distance between you so you can heal him. And if you have a ranged attack, he’s easy to stagger.
If you kill him you will be rewarded with the Ash of War: Flame Spiesplus the Key to prayer room, which is essential for the final part of the quest. But then you have to find him again.
Fire Knight Queelign second location in Elden Ring DLC
The second time you encounter Fire Knight Queelign is at the Crusade Church in Scadu Altuswhich – if you didn’t find it on your first trip to Belurat – might be yours First time.
(Note: Fire Knight Queelign shall showing up at the Church of the Crusade even if you haven’t fought him once. This is the order in which I encountered it. It will happen after you defeat Rellana, Twin Moon Knight or take the side path around Castle Ensis to skip that fight.)
The fastest way to reach the Church of the Crusade is from the Highroad Cross site of graceon the other side of Ensis Castle.
Follow the road and then turn left to the huge church on the edge of the cliff. Enter and Queelign will invade again, saying, “Those deprived of the grace of gold will all meet death.” This fight is almost identical to the other, and if you kill him this time you will be rewarded with the Crusade badgealong with a Scadutree fragment at the base of the statue and a Runic Arch on the corpse on the left.
Fire Knight Queelign third location in Elden Ring DLC
Although you’ll need to find Fire Knight Queelign one more time to complete the quest, thankfully you won’t have to fight him again. He can be found in the flooded area of Maintain shade.
If you haven’t fully explored that area yet, the quickest way is to go through it Moorish ruinsclearly Beautiful village (where you can get the gesture “O Mother”), then drive all the way through the Torrent Church District. However, once you reach the Specimen Storeroom, you can also find your way to the flooded section there, although I wouldn’t recommend it as those red-hooded enemies are a dime a dozen and extremely frustrating to fight.
You’re looking for the Church District Entrance Place of Grace, where you end up if you follow the road all the way, past packs of wolves and a surprising Furnace Golem. Keep driving and you’ll make it out unscathed.
From the Site of Grace, you’ll need to make your way across the rooftops. Jump to the section ahead of you—the one with the courtyard in the middle—and then go to the other side and jump across to the next building. Be careful on this rooftop and the next ledge, because those exploding zombie-like enemies that litter the path to Mohg, Lord of Blood in the base game will spawn from the ground.
On the third roof, one of those red cloaked guys who was a huge pain in the Specimen Storeroom will come at you. If you have a ranged attack, I recommend quickly jumping back onto the ledge you came from, firing from afar, then hiding behind the column that comes out of the wall as the fireballs come your way.
In the southeast corner of this building, jump onto the diagonal beam and don’t be scared by the huge tree monster moving beneath you. He won’t attack unless you draw his attention. Climb to the top – be careful with the jump at the end, as it can be tricky, coming from someone who fell off the first time – and then go to the hole in the roof.
Here, drop to the roof beams, and back to the floor. Don’t go through the doorway near the two crabs, as this will trigger the patrol another cloaked red guy; Instead, go to the opposite corner and find a locked door. Use the Key to prayer room and enter to find Fire Knight Queelign.
Should you give Fire Knight Queelign the Iris of Grace or Occultation?
You find Queelign curled up in a ball, begging Queen Marika to grant him mercy. Talk to him and, provided you have one of each, you can give him the Iris of Grace or the Iris of Occultation. Giving him the Iris of Mercy essentially allows him to ascend, while the Iris of Occultation kills him.
- Give him the Iris of Mercy will reward you with the Fire Knight Queelign Spirit Ashesso you can summon him into battle.
- Giving him the Iris of Occultation gives you Fire Knight Queelign’s Greatsword, complete with its unique Ash of War. (However, you can also give it to Jolan at the end of Count Ymir’s quest line in the Church of Metyr Manus. That will reward you with are mind, so choose wisely.)
If you need either resource, our guide on where to find Iris of Grace and Iris of Occultation locations can help.
