Finland’s ‘Party Prime Minister’ steps out again: Ex-Prime Minister Sanna Marin looks glamorous in black at the Victoria Beckham fashion show in Paris – after losing the general election and divorcing her husband

  • Sanna Marin has had a tumultuous year, losing elections and getting divorced
  • She was seen dressed in black before attending Victoria Beckham’s catwalk show
  • Marin now works for Tony Blair’s think tank as a ‘Strategic Advisor’

Finland’s former Prime Minister Sanna Marin looked glamorous as she stepped out for Victoria Beckham’s fashion show in Paris.

The former world leader, 37, was seen posing for photos while donning a long black dress in the City of Light before attending the ballet-inspired catwalk show on Friday.

The new photos come at the end of a long year for Marin, who at one point was a country’s youngest leader after taking high office in 2019 at just 34 years old.

She resigned from her role as chair of the centre-left Social Democrats earlier this month after her party narrowly lost elections in April.

Marin left her political career behind and started working as a ‘Strategic Advisor’ at former British Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair’s Institute for Global Change, a London-based policy think tank.

She also filed for divorce in May, amicably splitting from her then-husband of three years, Markus Raikkonen.

The pair, who have a five-year-old daughter together, said in separate Instagram stories at the time: ‘We are grateful for our 19 years together and our beloved daughter. We remain best friends.’

After her tumultuous spring, she took time to enjoy herself and was spotted at Flow, a music festival in Helsinki, in August.

Looking much more like a typical 30-something than a former world leader, the ‘rock star’ politician opted for chunky heels with a mini skirt and bralette in a series of photos she shared on Instagram.

One outfit is simply not enough for Sanna. On another occasion, she showed off a festival-chic look in a sheer black dress and reflective sunglasses.

For a third look, she opted for a Barbie pink mini dress with thigh-high boots.

The former prime minister, who was just 34 when she took office in 2019, really let loose in what she calls a “real summer holiday for the first time in a long time.”

She was accompanied by a group of friends, including fellow MP Nasima Razmyar.

In another post, she explained that it’s her first vacation “in a while.”

“This summer I had a real summer vacation for the first time in a while,” she wrote.

‘It included being busy with (her five-year-old daughter) Emma, sports, friends, good food and unforgettable trips.

After leading her country through the COVID-19 lockdowns and resulting economic turmoil, Marin became an outspoken supporter of Ukraine following last year’s Russian invasion and successfully pushed for an end to Finland’s military non-bond relationship in favor of NATO membership.

Although many called her a millennial inspiration who encouraged younger people to be less apathetic towards politics, she was still a controversial figure in Finland.

Finnish voters concerned about issues such as immigration and a growing government deficit handed Marin a narrow defeat in April against the right-wing National Coalition and the far-right Finns Party, leading to the fall of the government.

During her time in office, she has weathered several publicity storms, including for her nightclubbing during the pandemic, hosting private parties at her official residence and voluntarily taking a drug test – which came out negative – after a party video was leaked to the media.
