The biker friend who ambushed a rival gang member where he was shot in the head has been sentenced to prison.

In exchange for a promised $5,000 payment, Athar Almatrah created a fake Instagram account and set up a date with Mongolian bikie Rocco Curra in Melbourne in 2019.

But it was all a cover and part of a plan by Fink’s gang members associated with her then-lover to get revenge for the shooting of one of their own members.

Almatrah was sentenced to 20 months in prison on Wednesday by Victorian Supreme Court judge Mandy Fox, who ordered that she must serve at least half before being eligible for parole.

While prosecutors admitted that Almatrah did not know a gun would be involved, or that Curra would be shot four times in the head, chest and neck, they did know that he would likely be seriously injured.

“She expected him to be beaten quite seriously, but never really thought about the level of violence,” her lawyer Rishi Nathwani said in her defence.

CCTV footage of the incident that followed Almatrah’s Instagram exchange with the victim shows him arriving at the random location she gave him as her address.

When he texted her to say he had arrived, a car zoomed in and blocked him.

Two gunmen jump out and fire a dozen rounds into Curra’s car before running off.

He survived but had to undergo multiple surgeries and spent nearly a month in the hospital.

One of the accused gunmen, Sione Hokafonu, was acquitted of attempted murder of Curra by a jury.

It is the shooting of Hokafonu in the foot by another Mongols member that prosecutors say was the motivation for targeting Curra.

Two flight drivers were also acquitted by the same jury.

Charges against the second alleged gunman, Tavita Sua, were dropped following the acquittal of his co-defendant.

Almatrah, who is now 32, never received the money she was promised for her part in luring Curra into the incident.

That’s despite the fact that she kept pushing her then-boyfriend for payment.

He told her it was the Finks club who had promised to pay her and that she should take it up with them.

She continued to insist on the money even after the police came to her house to question her about the incident.

When she was later arrested, Almatrah told police that she had neither asked nor been promised payment by the Finks for her role.

In a letter to the court, Almatrah wrote that she wished she hadn’t been so naive and that she thought about her bad behavior and choices on a daily basis.

She understood that her actions had dire consequences and wreaked havoc, she said.

Almatrah has already spent 43 days behind bars.
