Finch Hatton crash: First responders rush to scene where a light plane has crashed in ‘mountainous, inaccessible’ terrain

Search and rescue teams are desperately searching for a downed light aircraft in an ‘inaccessible’ mountainous area.

Fears are high for the plane’s crew after a rescue helicopter spotted the crash site in Mackay’s Pioneer Valley in Queensland at 11.30am on Saturday.

It is believed the crew crashed in a ‘mountainous, inaccessible area’ near Finch Hatton, 63km west of Mackay.

RACQ CQ rescue teams are working with police to gain access to an inhospitable site where a light aircraft crashed at 11.30am on Saturday.

A member of the public reported that the crew had crashed in a “mountainous, inaccessible area” near Finch Hatton, 63km west of Mackay.

RACQ CQ rescue teams have been tasked with gaining access to the site.

Queensland Police said a member of the public reported the crash and officers were in the rescue helicopter on their way there the crash site, a mountain range north of Okuloo and Netherdale.

A spokesperson confirmed that officers were also at the scene and had been contacted the Australian Transport Safety Agency.

The ATSB is investigating the situation and is doing so ‘currently gathering further information’.
