A finance expert has revealed how travelers can recover hundreds of dollars if their flight is delayed or cancelled.

Queenie Tan, 26, from Sydney, said travelers can receive compensation of up to €600 in Europe if a flight is delayed or canceled and $1,550 in the US if you have an overbooked flight cancelled, but in Australia it will depend. of the airline. .

She said the United States does not have a federal law that requires airlines to compensate passengers on canceled or delayed flights.

“However, if you’ve been kicked off a flight that’s been overbooked, you can receive up to $1,550 in compensation,” Queenie added.

“And if it happens in Australia, you may be able to get compensation, but each airline has their own policies.”

While the US does not have a federal law that requires airlines to offer compensation to customers, travelers can claim up to $1,550 if an overbooked flight was taken away from them.

Virgin Australia passengers, for example, will be able to claim the cost of a hotel room of up to $220 per night, airport transfers, meals or personal items if a flight is cancelled.

If you are delayed for more than two hours at the airport, travelers may receive the costs of meals during the delay.

Queenie recommended the AirHelp app, which will take care of the airline’s customer support, however, she warned that a commission of 35 percent of the compensated amount is charged.
