It’s finally happened. Almost three years ArcaneNow that the first season has wrapped, the second and final chapter of the hit Netflix series has been given a release date. It will arrive, fittingly enough, around the three-year anniversary of its predecessor.
Announced during Netflix Geeked Week 2024 live event, Arcane season 2 will officially debut on Netflix Saturday November 9th. That’s… an unusual day for one of Netflix’s most successful animated series to return, but hey, I’m not complaining. I’ll be sitting down, cereal in hand, to catch my Saturday morning cartoon (albeit an adult-themed one) the moment it comes out.
But wait, there’s more. Netflix, combined with its Arcane partners Riot Games and Fortiche Productions, had even more surprises in store during Geeked Week Live. First, the trio revealed that, like Arcane Season 1, one of the best second seasons of Netflix’s series, will be released in three parts: Act 1 debuts in November, Act 2 arrives on November 16, and Act 3 wraps up the series on November 23. There’s no word on how many episodes there will be in each part, but I’m guessing it will be three apiece, which was the number of Season 1’s three acts.
We’re not there yet, folks. Showrunners Christian Linke and Alex Yee took to the Geeked Week Live stage to also reveal a brand new clip from Season 2, featuring Vi—or, as this version of the character is known in Arcane fan circles, Pit Fighter Vi – up to some bruising, well, pit-fighting antics. It certainly looks like she’s in her emo phase too, judging by her monochromatic clothing and makeup. My guess? Something terrible happens in Season 2, Act 1, forcing Vi to go underground and disguise herself in Act 2. But, as Arcane In the official Season 2 trailer, which was announced earlier in September, she will have to overcome her self-imposed exile and/or breakdown to protect Piltover and Zaun as Season 2 progresses.
Lastly on the reveal front, Netflix and Riot also announced Afterglow. An aftershow that will be hosted by Vi and Jinx voice actors Hailee Steinfeld and Ella Purnell, it will go behind the scenes of every act of Netflix’s adaptation of Riot’s League of Legends video game franchise. More details on when and where Afterglow will be available to watch soon, but don’t be surprised if you can watch them on the world’s best streaming service after you’ve watched every part.
Phew, that was a lot to catch you up on! If it doesn’t come across in my writing, then I’m super pumped for Arcane‘s return. It feels like an eternity has passed since we last visited Runeterra and I simply cannot wait to go back and see the epic conclusion to one of the best animated series in living memory.
