Kitase explained that the game continues immediately Remake left, with Cloud and his friends as they explore the Forgotten Capital, and while Sephiroth barely appears in this section in the original, the villain will act as “the driving force that pulls the story forward” in Rebirth.
“He is portrayed in even more depth than in the original game, and I think this makes him an even more charismatic and attractive opponent than before,” said Kitase.
Nomura added that the evolution of the RebirthThe characters of ‘wasn’t a sudden mutation’ due to the fact that players have seen a number of characters in other spin-off titles in the past, as well as in Remake. Of all of them, however, Sephiroth has appeared the most “with each appearance adding more layers of detail, making him much deeper as a character.”
“In a sense, we’re seeing this evolved and profound portrayal of Sephiroth as he now ‘returns’ to his roots in the remake series, and so of course his presence will be much deeper and clearer than in the original. Nomura continued.
“On the other hand, fans now have a much greater knowledge and understanding of Sephiroth, so I hope players can see the character’s appeal even more strongly.”
