FinalFantasy 16 will have a new game plus mode, Square Enix announced during its latest promotional push for the game’s launch this week.
In a Japanese live stream on Saturday (as reported by Twitter user Genk), the developers revealed Final Fantasy Mode, an option that becomes available in the main menu after you’ve completed the game once. Final Fantasy mode allows players to take their character level, skills, and equipment into a new playthrough, with an increased level cap of 100, and higher-level enemies. There is an Ultima weapon to craft and a gold trophy is offered for completing the game again in this mode.
The training and challenge modes accessible through the Arete Stone in-game also get an upgrade in Final Fantasy Mode, featuring an Ultimania difficulty setting and a difficult time trial mode called Chronolith Trials.
Producer Naoki Yoshida also said the game would receive a day one patch to fix a few “very minor” issues – an announcement he made with some humility, after the team previously promised to avoid such an update .
The patch will be around 300MB in size and will fix some rare progression and crash bugs, correct minor text errors, and optimize performance in a few areas where frame rate suffered. Applying the patch is not required to play the game.
Yoshida’s team was proud to release a highly polished, finished version of it FinalFantasy 16 without any delay on the release date, and Square Enix’s extensive promotion of the game over the past few months – including the release of a very warmly received demo last week – has spoken of its confidence in the title. In this context, the patch is the smallest setback.
FinalFantasy 16 will launch on June 22, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
