Final Fantasy 14s next major expansion, Dawn trail, is just around the corner. Warriors of Light finally launches on July 2 (or June 28 if you pre-ordered for early access) and will be taken to the beginning of a brand new storyline for the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG).
I was there last week From Dawntrail European media tour, where I had the opportunity to speak Final fantasy 14 director and producer Naoki Yoshida on the upcoming expansion. I asked Yoshida if there is any content currently in the game that he would recommend players experience before starting From Dawntrail main scenario mission line.
“There is one piece of content that I would recommend that would give insight into the knowledge of the world, and tie in with what would happen in Dawn trail,“ Yoshida says. “That would be Aloalo Island from the Variant Dungeon series. But other than that, if I say too much you’ll get spoilers!”
In Final fantasy 14, Variant Dungeons are optional dungeons with multiple routes that can be tackled solo or with a group of up to four players. Exploring the various routes within will not only challenge players with various boss encounters, but will also allow them to slowly discover the lore and mysteries surrounding the area.
In the Aloalo Island Variant Dungeon, players team up with Matsya, a timid fisherman who played an important role in the End runner expansion (and who was the center of one of the most heartbreaking cutscenes). The location also seems to be satisfactory in terms of aesthetics. But if Yoshida highlights it as something to watch sooner Dawn trail, it is likely that we will find some links with the New World there, even if they are not immediately obvious.
Yoshida also emphasized that players need to brush up on their knowledge Final fantasy 14 lore in general. “You could look through historical books like Encyclopedia Eorzea and brush up on the makeup of the world, and that might be helpful. But I think if I say anything else there will be spoilers.
‘What I can say, however, is that the Warrior of Light is going on vacation. But how long a holiday will last… who knows, because the Warrior of Light always gets into trouble!’
