Filmmaker bizarrely walks off Today Extra set midway through interview with host David Campbell: ‘There she goes!’

Gracie Otto ended her Today Extra interview in the most unique way possible: by walking off set during the broadcast.

The filmmaker appeared on the morning news program to talk about her latest film and Stan Original Documentary Revealed: Otto By Otto.

But as the interview came to an end, the 37-year-old abruptly got up from the couch and walked out of the studio.

Co-hosts David Campbell and Belinda Russell looked confused, until David joked: “You can go.”

“If you want to walk away, walk away. Make an exit! There she goes,” he added as Gracie waved goodbye and walked away.

It comes after Gracie, who has been documenting her father Barry Otto’s life since being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, revealed his disease has worsened to the point he no longer recognizes her.

‘I asked him many things – and then there had to be a huge rush to ask him while he was still alive. And he’s still alive, but barely,” she said Stellar magazine.

“He has moments of absolute clarity that are very rare and are usually about someone or something from the past… it’s like he’s trying to remember who he is, and that’s quite beautiful in a way,” she continued.

Gracie’s documentary is described as ‘captivating’, but not as a traditional biopic about her father and Australian icon Barry.

Rather, it is “a deeply personal reflection on her relationship with her father, filmed over five years, in the twilight of his career and as his health deteriorated.”

In the film, Gracie takes her father to Brisbane to relive his childhood, his poor upbringing and his first foray into the theater in moving scenes.

The documentary also reveals Barry’s health struggles after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

The family kept Barry’s diagnosis quiet for a while, partly so he could continue working, but he believed the film could help others cope with the disease.

Barry has had an impressive film and theater career spanning more than 50 years.

Revealed: Otto by Otto premiered at the Sydney Film Festival and will stream in Australia on Stan from June 16.
