Fifth of new companies founded by all-female bosses: Generation Z takes the lead as women launch a record number of new companies

Women are creating more companies than ever before, with one-fifth of new companies founded by all-female top teams.

NatWest boss Alison Rose said women are advancing in the business world – four years after her Rose Review exposed the barriers female entrepreneurs face.

Women founded 151,600 companies in 2022, the highest ever and almost triple the number in 2018.

Start-ups: Women founded 151,600 companies in 2022, the highest ever record and nearly triple the number in 2018

In particular, companies founded by Gen Z women, aged 16 to 25, took a big leap forward, with numbers increasing by a quarter.

Rose’s 2019 review found that 13 per cent of senior people on UK investment teams were women, while nearly half were non-female.

According to the latest report, one in five startups had all female directors last year, up from 16 percent in 2018.

Rose said the findings in her latest report are “proof of the resilience” of women in business.
