FIFA had initially banned Rubiales for 90 days, but has now extended the ban to three years.

A FIFA statement released on Monday said: ‘The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has banned Rubiales, the former president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), from all football-related activities at national and international level for three years after finding that he acted contrary to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). violation of Article 13 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.”

After Spain’s 1-0 win over England in the World Cup final, Rubiales was seen grabbing Hermoso’s face and kissing her on the lips.

Hermoso was quick to point out that it was a non-consensual incident, which led to a number of Spanish players signing a statement saying they would refuse to play for the national team until Rubiales was removed.

Although the former president argued otherwise to Hermoso, he refused to resign until he finally resigned on September 10.

The incident completely overshadowed Spain’s victory at the World Cup and sparked a global discussion about sexism in women’s sport at the highest level.
