FIFA signs major sponsorship deal with Bank of America as world football’s governing body partner with US firm for first time ahead of 2026 World Cup

FIFA has signed a major sponsorship deal with an American company for the first time since the Justice Department gave the world football governing body a clean slate.

Bank of America, one of the world’s largest financial institutions, signed an agreement with FIFA on Thursday that will see it travel to the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

FIFA also recently announced a multi-million pound commercial partnership with Saudi oil company Aramco.

The latest sponsorship deal with Bank of America includes the Club World Cup in the United States next summer, as well as the World Cup the following year.

Chelsea and Manchester City will compete in the Club World Cup in the summer of 2025.

FIFA has previously struggled to attract new US investment for its global football projects due to reputational damage suffered by the organisation following the arrest of FIFA leadership under former president Sepp Blatter.

The Justice Department ultimately returned more than $200 million to FIFA as part of a cleanup operation following the corruption scandal that rocked FIFA in 2016.

But the deal with Bank of America, the first time in recent history that a financial institution has partnered with FIFA, is expected to pave the way for further sponsorship deals with leading US companies in the future.
