FFXIV beginner tips and bait list for ocean fishing

Ocean fishing is fun and relaxing Final fantasy 14 side hustle, although it can be stressful if you don’t know what you’re doing. Getting out on a boat with friends to land big catches is a unique experience, but you can only fish in the ocean at certain times of the day.

You don’t need to own any Ocean Fishing expansions and you can join in even if you play the free trial. Yippie!

Below we explain how to unlock ocean fish FFXIV. We also tell you the ocean fishing schedule, what bait to use while fishing the ocean, and tips to score big points and reap rewards.

What is ocean fishing?

Ocean fishing is like an alliance raid, but for fishing. You board a large boat that takes you through three different parts of the water and you have to complete objectives for extra points.

You will be placed in a full party, with two other parties on your boat. The goal is to catch fish to get a big score within the time limit.

However, it’s not just about catching big, rare fish. Catching special “spectral” fish has the chance to… spectral flow. You can even capture with these spectral streams more fish with higher point values, so activating one of these is almost always the goal.

There are also a handful of objectives to complete during the expedition, such as catching lots of sharks or jellyfish.

How to Unlock Ocean Fish in FFXIV

To begin your big ocean fishing adventure, you’ll need to get the Fisherman job, which you can do by going to the Fishermen’s guild in Limsa Lominsa. You must also complete the following Fisher mission: “My first fishing rod.” You can fish in the ocean even if your Fisher is at level 1. (In fact, ocean fishing is a really easy way to level up Fisher super fast.)

Once your Fisher is ready to use, all you have to do is complete the quest”All fish in the sea” in Limsa Lominsa, which starts at the NPC Fhilsnoe below:

Once you complete that quest, you can do that ocean fishing queue via Dryskthota at the Limsa Lominsa Ferry Docks (west of the Arcanist’s Guild Aetheryte)as long as it is time to ocean fishing.

Please note that you cannot access the Ruby route via the Stormblood locations until you reach the Stormblood expansion.

Ocean fishing schedule

Unfortunately, you can’t fish in the ocean whenever you want. Sea fishing runs according to a fixed schedule and you can only register for it fifteen minutes from the top of the real world hour, every other hour. For example, if the registration period starts at 2 p.m., you have until 2:15 p.m. to queue for sea fishing. If you miss this period, you will have to wait until 4:00 PM

Although we recommend paying attention to odd or even hours, the exact time changes depending on daylight saving time and your time zone. That’s why we recommend Lulu’s Tools, which has a live time ocean fishing scheduleand even notes which objectives and routes the next few boats will take.

What bait to use while ocean fishing

There are three main types of bait used when sea fishing: krill, sawyerAnd fat worm. You can get all three of these baits from the merchant at the harbor where you line up for ocean fishing. You’ll need to stock up and buy a ton of each of the three.

In every ocean fishing experience we’ve had, it has always been someone in the group who uses the alliance chat (the orange chat) to tell which bait to use or, alternatively, someone who will tell you what bait to use if you ask. However, if you don’t want to have to rely on these genius anglers every time you get on the boat, here are the best baits to activate spectral currents by location:

  • Blood-heavy Sea: krill
  • The Ciedalaes: sawyer
  • Galadion Bay: plump worm
  • Rhotano Sea: plump worm
  • Rothlyt sound: plump worm
  • Northern Strait of Merlthor: sawyer
  • Southern Strait of Merlthor: krill
  • Siren song Sea: plump worm
  • Kugane coast: sawyer
  • Ruby Sea: krill
  • A river: krill

In a very broad sense, these three baits will keep you covered. There are some specific catches for which a different ace of the three, but for the sake of simplicity and point scoring, using these three aces should lead you to success.

How to get a high score in sea fishing

When fishing in the ocean you can min-max, and while a high score also depends on luck, there are a few things you can do to improve your score:

  • Clear your inventory to prepare for the fishing trip because you will bring in many unique fish that will take up a lot of inventory spaces. Do not use the “release list” function to automatically discard fishbecause the animation played to throw the fish away will waste your precious time on the boat.
  • Bring and use Cordial greetings And Hallo-Cordialen to restore your GP. you should use your fishing skills whether you use Patience, Powerful and Precision Hookset or other fishing skills. You shouldn’t just use your basic Hook skill.
  • Don’t forget to use Thalaik’s favora level 15 skill that gives you back 150 GP in exchange for three stacks of Angler’s Art (a buff you get for catching only big fish).
  • Usage Chum between catches during spectral currents to make the fish bite faster.
  • Don’t put too much emphasis on your point value while fishing, because there are a lot of bonuses at the end that will skyrocket your score. You will be surprised how many bonuses you can get at the end.

Just by following the above we were able to score over 10,000 points (which is all you need to get the mount and minions).
