A Ferrari once owned by ex-footballer and TV pundit Robbie Savage has sold at auction for £26,000 below his estimate.
The BBC and BT Sport commentator’s Italian sports car was expected to fetch £80,000 but sold for just £54,000.
The 48-year-old ex-Wales international bought the Ferrari F430 Spider when he played for Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League in 2006 to win the clubs qualifying for the UEFA Cup.
He picked up the 193 mph engine, which can go from 0-60 mph in 4.1. seconds, for about £100,000. However, Savage broke his leg in January 2007, putting him out of action for several months and unable to drive it – and it was sold to a new owner that year.
The Ferrari went on sale at the H&H Classics auction in Duxford, Cambridgeshire, with just 26,000 miles on it and an MOT without advice until May next year, but failed to secure a top price.

H&H’s auction listing read: ‘Extensive maintenance history. Formerly owned by Premier League and Welsh International footballer Robbie Savage.’
With a displacement of 4,308 cc, its 32-valve ‘quad cam’ V8 reportedly developed 483 horsepower and 343 lbft of torque.
Mated to a manual or F1-style paddle shift transmission, both with six speeds, it enabled the F430 Spider to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and to over 313 km/h you sprint.
“Savage played for Blackburn Rovers at the time, his choice of an F430 Spider was repeated by none other than Lionel Messi.”
