Ferrari F40 supercar worth more than £1.5 million is towed away by police – for driving without insurance

A £1.5 million supercar was seized and taken away by police after driving without insurance.
The Ferrari F40 was towed at Lowestoft, Suffolk on 31 March, forcing the owner to pay £150 recovery costs and daily storage charges until collection.
Police shared footage of the luxury vehicle, which has a top speed of 201 mph, being taken away while tied to a tow truck.
Officers said the driver had only recently purchased the Ferrari when they were caught driving illegally.
According to the law, the driver will not get the immaculate red vehicle back until he has taken out insurance.

But until then they will be charged every day for storage until the car is picked up.
And they will also be slapped with a £150 reparation fee.

They accompanied it with a message that read, “After a few checks, it turns out this very expensive car recently purchased had no insurance whatsoever… oh man, bad times.”
The team added: ‘Driver charged with no insurance and vehicle impounded… Salvage looked good in a panic when they showed up!!
“Well done team.”

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said: ‘The vehicle has been removed by a recovery company and the driver will be able to get it back once they can show they have an insurance policy in place.
“They also have to pay a £150 recovery fee and daily storage fee until they pick it up.”
According to Ferrari’s website, the F40 was first built in 1987 to celebrate the Italian luxury sports car manufacturer’s 40th anniversary.
What makes the vehicle so incredible and sought after is that only 1,311 were made, according to the company.
For those lucky enough to own one, it has a top speed of 200 mph.
The cars regularly sell for over £1 million, with some units going for over £2 million.
