Fernando Alonso reveals sad news on love life with Andrea Schlager after Australian F1 Grand Prix

Formula One superstar Fernando Alonso gives fans some very sad news about his love life just hours after taking third place at the Australian Grand Prix.

  • He came third at Albert Park with Aston Martin
  • He made the love life announcement soon after.
  • He also had a cheeky dig at Red Bull

F1 driver Fernando Alonso delighted his fans by finishing third at the Australian Grand Prix, but later announced that he and partner Andrea Schlager have parted ways.

Alonso shared the news on his Instagram Story with a photo of him and Schlager, along with a caption that read: “We wanted to tell you that our relationship as a couple is over.”

“We have been lucky enough to share a fantastic time together, and it will continue to be so, but with a different kind of love.

‘As you have probably seen, we have continued to work on and off the road on various projects together during this time as well, and we will continue to do so with a deep love and respect for one another.

‘We thought it appropriate to share this as all of you have been very supportive. Thanks for that. I love Fer and Andrea.’

Alonso and Schlager during the happier days before their breakup, which was announced just after the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday.

The couple also thanked their fans for their support, noting that they would continue to work together on various projects with mutual love and respect.

Schlager, a sports commentator with a career in the F1 paddock, met the Spanish driver through her F1 commitments. Very little is known about their relationship, which has been kept out of the public eye for the most part.

Alonso is a two-time F1 world champion, winning the campaign in 2005 and 2006. He has had a collection of relationships, having been married to Raquel del Rosario and engaged to Lara Álvarez.

Alonso has also previously been in a relationship with Carolina Costa, Dasha Kapustina, and most recently, Linda Morselli.

Despite his past relationships, Alonso has no children. In 2018, he mentioned that his dedication to his sport had left him “without friends, without family, without free time, without privacy, without a wife and without children.”

Alonso had preferred to keep his love life out of the public spotlight, but decided to let his fans know that their relationship is over.

Alonso is celebrating his third place in the Australian Grand Prix with Aston Martin after a gripping battle with Lewis Hamilton, but the weekend was not all good news for the Spaniard.

During the Australian Grand Prix, Alonso finished in third place and spent most of the race trying to hunt down Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.

A tangle with Carlos Sainz appeared to have ended his career, but he was granted a reprieve when the FIA opted to red-flag the race again.

Alonso’s performance in Australia was notable because, for the first time in 2023, a non-Red Bull car finished ahead of him, with Hamilton in second.

Alonso took the opportunity to make a wry quip at Sergio Perez’s expense as he assessed the pecking order of the best cars in Melbourne.

Pérez had joked in Bahrain about him, Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso “all being Red Bull drivers” and that “it was nice to see three Red Bull cars on the podium!”

Alonso responded by saying: ‘No more three Red Bulls on the podium, if Checo was here.’
