Female student beats up teacher in hallway at St Louis high school ‘after she refused to allow her to use anti-seizure medicine’, has seizure shortly after
A brutal fight between a Missouri high school student and an older science teacher left the teacher hospitalized and the teen having a seizure while handcuffed to the ground in front of her shocked classmates.
Violence broke out Wednesday at Normandy High School in St. Louis after teacher Sheryl Rogers, 65, challenged the student in a school hallway.
Students at the school claimed the teacher became unduly suspicious when she saw the teen taking her anti-epileptic medication from a bag in her locker.
But Ms Rogers’ partner Greg Stanton said the student pushed the teacher, tried to get her bag back and then attacked her after being told to wait.
‘Where were the police? Where were the paraprofessionals?’ he asked further ksdk.

Rogers fell to the ground, still clutching the bag, as the student towered over her at Normandy High School in St. Louis
Seconds later, the student is also on the ground and a barrage of blows rains down on the senior’s head
Stanton was at work when he saw a video of the fight which immediately went viral after it was uploaded by students at the school in St Charles Rock Road.
It begins with Mrs. Rogers already lying on the floor, seemingly clinging to a bag held by the student standing over her, who herself falls to the floor as she receives a series of blows to the teacher’s head.
The student continues to punch the teacher, pinning her between her legs as the pair struggle on the ground and a male teacher tries in vain to intervene.
Mrs. Rogers continues to cling to the bag and stands up as the student is held back by her classmates, attempting to lunge at the teen before being pushed to the ground by a second student.
The teacher and her attacker are eventually separated and the student is led away by another.
But a second video, apparently filmed just seconds later, shows the student handcuffed and lying on her back in the same hallway, convulsing violently as a member of the school’s security staff tries to prevent her from swallowing her tongue.
Stanton said his partner was taken to hospital a short time later.
“She’s pretty beat up,” he added.
‘She really couldn’t talk. She doesn’t understand why. She was crying.”

The school, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, declined to release details of the incident or whether the student had also been sent to hospital.
“The district is addressing an incident that occurred this morning involving a confrontation between a teacher and a student,” the statement said.
“The government is taking this matter seriously and is cooperating fully with local law enforcement.
“In addition, we have initiated an internal investigation to gather all necessary facts surrounding the incident, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of this investigation.
“The safety and well-being of our students and staff are of the utmost importance to Normandy Schools Collaborative, and our primary focus is providing a safe and nurturing space for students to learn and for teachers to teach.”
In an October 2020 interview with the St. Louis AmericanMs Rogers told how some of her students at the 670-enrolment school rely on mobile phones for assignments due to a lack of technology in their homes.
“Another obstacle is the lack of parental support,” she continued.
‘I have tried to encourage parental involvement with gift vouchers, extra credit, a dinner, but with little or no response.
‘If parents do not place a high value on education, their children will not do so either. I can only continue as I do and encourage my students to present the best they have to offer.”
Former Normandy principal Ian Buchanan said no amount of training can adequately prepare a teacher to deal with a violent student.
“Teaching is one of the hardest jobs in the world,” he added.
‘There are a number of techniques that many teachers have been trained to use and implement.

‘I think we have to resist that initial reaction first, and respond in a defensive way.
“I certainly wouldn’t want it to be an eye for an eye or an eye for an eye at the same time, in case you didn’t know, teachers are people.
“So we can talk about the whole theory of what should happen, but when you’re faced with all those situations, who knows what could happen.”
St. Louis police said criminal charges will be filed against the student through the county’s juvenile courts.
