A solo female traveler has revealed the destinations she will never visit again, including a European city that is a major tourist attraction
First on her list was Manila, the capital of the Philippines, which welcomed more than 14 million tourists in 2023, according to the country’s tourism department.
Andrea explained her first choice: ‘It was definitely not safe. My hotel wouldn’t even let me go to the ATM outside.
“They told me to put on more clothes and not wear a tank top because there were so many men outside and it just wasn’t safe for me to walk alone.”
Moving on to her next pick on the list, this choice may come as a surprise to many considering its status as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.
Andrea chose the French capital Paris because, as she says: ‘I was almost robbed twice on the metro, even though there is a large police presence in the city.
‘I was also warned about pickpockets and was advised not to go out alone at night.’
Third, she chose Cartagena, Colombia, which she said she loved even though “the men were quite aggressive.”
She added: ‘The reason why Cartagena is on this list is because I was warned by the police about taking a video from a taxi as they said it could be unexpectedly snatched by a local.’
Andrea listed her penultimate city on places she wouldn’t recommend visiting as a solo female traveler, choosing Caye Caulker in the Central American country of Belize.
She explained why, saying: “The men are very, very aggressive.”
Responding to her choices in the comments, other users expressed concern about Andrea including Paris in her list
“So much so that I had to pepper spray a man who physically touched me in an attempt to get me to come to his restaurant, which he tried several times.”
The vlogger revealed her final choice, saying she would never return to San Salvador, the capital of another Central American country, El Salvador.
She said this is because she was “almost kidnapped by two men in San Salvador while walking next to some construction workers.”
“They weren’t gang members, but they had a spool of wire in the back of their truck. They came up next to me, grabbed my arms and tried to pull me into the car.’
“Luckily people heard me screaming and were able to convince the men to let me go.”
Responding to her choices in the comments, other users expressed their concerns about Andrea, including Paris.
They said, ‘Oh no, I’m planning to go to Paris this year. Tips?’
She replied: ‘Don’t take the subway and be very careful of pickpockets. I saw them in action at the Eiffel Tower.’
Another said: ‘I haven’t even bothered using the metro system in Paris, it’s much safer to just take an Uber.’
Another comment read: ‘I was followed in Paris’.
A fourth commented: ‘I traveled to Paris alone when I was 21, but that was 20 years ago. I felt safe for the most part, but I know things have changed.”
