Female North Carolina Spanish teacher, 37, is charged with raping 14 year-old boy who was one of her students
A North Carolina Spanish teacher has been accused of raping a 14-year-old student.
Heydi Monroy, 37, was arrested Tuesday and charged with rape and other crimes following an investigation by officials at Wellcome Middle School in Greenville.
A school employee reportedly launched an investigation following a report from another employee. According to court documents seen by WHITEthe crimes took place on April 5.
Pitt County Schools Public Information Officer said Monroy, who is originally from Colombia, is no longer an employee at the high school.

Monroy had worked at the school since August 2022.
She has been held without bond since Wednesday.
It comes as dozens of female teachers have been arrested across the country this year for sex crimes involving students – while the apparent number of ‘cougars in the classroom’ continues to grow.
A long line of female teachers allegedly involved with young people across the country is dominating headlines.
DailyMail.com found that 25 female teachers have been arrested in 16 states in the past 12 months. It is feared that this is just the tip of the iceberg as there appears to be no centralized data collection to track this disturbing trend.
Monroy, originally from Colombia, had worked at the school since August 2022

In April, married New Jersey teacher Jessica Sawicki, 37, was arrested after police found her half-naked in the backseat of a teenager’s car at a nature center. The mother-of-two is said to have admitted to police that she and the student had had ‘unprotected’ sex at least five times.
In Nebraska, 45-year-old Erin Ward was arrested after he was caught naked in the backseat with a teenage boy. The substitute teacher is married to a Defense Department official and was quickly arrested by police on the spot.
Many of the accused female teachers charged in the past year are married, and one was even named teacher of the year.
The teachers seduce students with sexually explicit texts, nude photos and videos before and during physical encounters, police say.

That figure is an underestimate, as many states do not indicate why a teacher’s credentials were suspended or revoked.
