Female golfer loses playoff after BIZAR incident as official car accidentally pushes her driver into rope barrier – and she was already playing with a backup club after the airline broke the original!

  • Ann van Dam saw her driver break down in a bizarre incident with a golf cart
  • The rope barrier on the green hit her bat and broke the head off
  • This happened as she made her way to a playoff tee, where she finished second

Golf star Ann van Dam suffered a freak incident when her driver snapped while driving a golf cart during the Ladies European Tour’s KPMG Irish Open.

Van Dam started the final round with a three-shot lead, but ended in a three-way playoff.

However, by the time of the playoff, Van Dam was without her driver as the 27-year-old drove a cart to the tee.

As she and an official made their way onto the fairway, they were instructed to go outside the ropes, with Van Dam grabbing the rope to lift it over the two of them… but she let go too quickly.

As the cart went through, the rope caught on Van Dam’s driver and dragged the bag off the back of the golf cart.

Her driver’s head broke off and it was later revealed she had no replacement

Realizing too late, Van Damm and the umpire went back to retrieve her bat, with the head detached from the rest of the body.

Luckily for Van Damm, the rules meant she could replace her driver before the play-off…but more drama ensued.

In the broadcasts, Van Dam was asked: ‘It hasn’t happened again, has it?’ after the incident.

Monday Q Info had reported that Van Dam was already playing with her backup driver when her main club was broken up by the airline en route to Ireland.

It doesn’t get much more bizarre than that in sports.

Even more brutal, the golfer finished second in the tournament, just missing out on the playoff.
