Federico Valverde’s wife has released an emotional statement after the Real Madrid star allegedly punched Villarreal’s Alex Baena over an alleged comment about his wife’s pregnancy scares.
The incident came after Real Madrid’s 3-2 defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu against Villarreal on Saturday.
Valverde punched Baena in the face after he boarded the team bus after the two sides met.
The Villarreal player has decided to sue Valverde over the incident and has denied making any comment about the pregnancy scare.
His wife, Mina Bonino, has now discussed the incident in a post on Twitter.

Reports suggested Baena made comments about Valverde’s (left) unborn child and his wife Mina Bonino after they had a pregnancy scare earlier this year
The pair already have a child, Benicio (pictured) and their expected baby is believed to be healthy, with Mina writing last month that she was ‘six months into it’
She wrote, “Do I have to explain why they told me my pregnancy couldn’t go ahead?”
“We were silent for almost two months waiting for the results to know if we could continue, with five months of pregnancy already.
“I’ve been through enough that they’ve come to question me about my son’s health.
“Despite everything, I don’t wish from the bottom of my heart for anyone to experience a similar situation.”
Valverde and Mina’s child is said to be healthy the sun reports that last month she informed followers on Instagram that she was “six months into it.”
The couple already have one son together named Benicio, born in February 2020.
Baena denies telling Valverde in a cup game earlier this year: “Cry now that your son is not going to be born.”
The comment is said to have been made around the time Valverde’s wife was in danger of losing the couple’s second child.
Baena posted on social media on Sunday morning: “Very happy with the team’s impressive victory in a place like the Santiago Bernabeu, but at the same time very sad about the aggression I suffered after the game and surprised by what is being said about me. IT’S COMPLETELY NOT TRUE THAT I’M SAYING THAT.’

Valverde will escape immediate sporting punishment for beating Baena, but the police will now be called
Valverde will still escape any immediate sporting punishment for the incident and avoid a possible 12-match suspension, as Villarreal decided not to report the incident to the Spanish Football Federation and it was not included in the referee’s report.
But Villarreal confirmed in a statement on Sunday evening that the police will now be involved and that could open a way for Spain’s Anti-Violence Commission to get involved.
Baena had indicated to local journalists on Sunday morning that the case would be closed without further action. But he changed his mind and his club have said they will support him in his decision.
Sunday night’s Villarreal statement read: ‘Villarreal CF player Alex Baena was attacked last night on his way to the team bus after the game against Real Madrid CF at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
“Again, Villarreal CF rejects any act of violence and firmly believes in his player’s version and will support him throughout this process.”
The club’s initial reaction after Valverde slapped Baena as he boarded the Villarreal team bus following Villarreal’s 3-2 win at the Santiago Bernabeu last night was to leave the decision to their player.
Despite having video evidence of the incident, they deemed it likely that no action would be taken.
