‘Fed up’ fundraiser who ditched Democrats after the DNC blows the whistle on how billionaires and celebrities have taken over the party – and who is influencing Kamala Harris
A Democratic consultant who has raised millions for the party has warned that the party has betrayed its roots and become a lobbyist plaything in the thrall of celebrity supporters.
Evan Barker has been campaigning for the party since high school and was “excited” to attend the DNC in Chicago, where Kamala Harris was crowned the party’s presidential candidate.
But once she got there, she realized the stranglehold liberal billionaires now have on policy platforms — at the expense of the working people they are supposed to represent.
And the party has not heeded the lessons of its stuttering support at the polls, with Vice President Tim Walz last week posing next to the son of progressive billionaire George Soros, whose prosecutors have done so much damage to the party’s brand party and to people’s lives.
“Is this how you convince people that you are the people’s party?” she asked. “By posing with a billionaire nepo baby while Americans are struggling to pay for their groceries?”
“These Soros-backed prosecutors are far from progressive and have done more to hurt progressives than anything the right has managed.
Lifelong Democrat activist Evan Barker said she was “thrilled” to attend the DNC in Chicago before being “devastated” when she saw the inner workings of the party up close.
She said the photo of Democratic Vice President Tim Walz paying court at the Manhattan mansion of George Soros’ “fake baby” son Alexander illustrates how tone-deaf the party has become.
“For everyday Americans, the term ‘progressive’ now conjures up images of fentanyl overdoses, crime, feces in the streets and riots,” she said. Newsweek.
Barker was shocked when Joe Biden’s defenestration went unchallenged at the DNC and points to the influence of billionaire donor Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Steve Jobs, one of Harris’ closest friends.
She spent some of her millions spreading negative polling data about Biden to other megadonors and sat in Harris’ exclusive box at the convention while her protégé enjoyed her coronation.
“Now that the DNC Kool-Aid has worn off, people are waking up to the reality of an untested candidate,” Barker wrote.
“Harris narrowly beats Biden in key polls, dodges questions from the press and consistently provides answers on key policy issues. She can hardly answer basic questions about her plans for ordinary people in friendly meetings with people like Oprah.
“This is what happens when a candidate is anointed by donors and not selected by voters.”
LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman is on track to spend more than $100 million to get his preferred candidate elected, but is expected to demand the head of FTC Chair Lina Khan in return, claiming she is at ‘war with corporate America’.
Barker described Khan as “one of the few lifelines for working people in the modern democratic machine” and praised her work in blocking mergers of supermarket giants, which would have cost jobs and raised prices.
Harris won over a slew of celebrities at the DNC, including chat show host Oprah Winfrey, who hosted a “Unite for America” livestream rally
At the event, dozens of Hollywood A-listers pledged their support for the party’s new choice
Barker pointed to the outsized influence of billionaire donors, including Steve Jobs’ widow, Laurene Powell Jobs, in securing the nomination for her Democratic protégé.
She stood up for workers’ rights by banning non-compete agreements and led efforts to block major supermarket mergers like Kroger-Albertsons, which would have resulted in higher food prices and hurt union workers.
“If Hoffman is successful in his public campaign to replace Khan, he will further cement the Democrats as the party of the wealthy, powerful and corporate elite,” she said.
“Democrats love to decry money in politics when it comes to the Koch brothers or Elon Musk, but the billionaires who support the Democrats get a total pass and have enormous influence on policy.”
Barker comes from a working-class family in Kansas, where she endured a childhood of “intense strain on my family’s finances.”

“Many of my family members are proud construction workers and lifelong union members. “I grew up believing that the Democrats were our party,” she says.
But the party’s vulnerability to sectional interests that prioritize identity over income has alienated her family and threatens to destroy its fundamental support.
She mentioned prolific San Francisco donor and influencer Steve Phillips, author of books such as “Brown Is the New White: How the Demographic Revolution Has Created a New American Majority” and “How We Win the Civil War: Securing a Multiracial Democracy and A end white supremacy for good.”
“It is becoming increasingly clear that the real divide is the one that separates the university from the working class of all races,” she wrote.
“But Phillips and others like him continue to focus solely on race – and you see the direct impact this has on Democratic politicians, who talk about issues like ‘equality’ far more than class differences.
“It is out of touch with the pulse of the country and deeply alienating to working-class voters who were once staunch Democrats.”
Barker said her optimism about the DNC was replaced by a “sinking feeling” when she arrived and started watching party leaders at work.
“I felt immersed in a hollow room whose mottos were ‘Brat Summer’ and ‘Joy’ – completely out of touch with the regular, everyday American and their pressing needs,” she reflected.
“Instead, the most elite people in the world sang in unison: ‘We’re not going back.’”
And no event exemplified the disconnect from reality more than the euphoric “Unite for America” livestream rally that featured Oprah Winfrey as Hollywood royalty beamed out their messages of support.
Celebrities including Bryan Cranston, Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Jennifer Lopez, Tracee Ellis Ross, Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep dominated a giant screen at the event as Winfrey and Harris traded platitudes in front of a hand-picked audience.
“I felt immersed in a hollow room whose mottos were ‘Brat Summer’ and ‘Joy’ – completely out of touch with the regular, everyday American and their pressing needs,” she reflected.
“I want to see the Democratic Party talking about what they’re going to do for my grandmother, not just having a bunch of celebrities fly in and tell us all to be cheerful and optimistic,” she added
“They’re really just telling us that all we need is optimism and joy, and that this will make our lives better,” Barker said. Fox News.
“And I’m just tired of it. I’m completely fed up.
“My grandmother, she lives in Missouri. She voted for Obama twice. She has voted for Trump the past few times
‘Things have become so outrageously expensive, it’s so hard for her.
“I want to see the Democratic Party talking about what they’re going to do for my grandmother, not just having a bunch of celebrities fly in and tell us all to be happy and optimistic. It’s cheap. It’s embarrassing.’
But grandmothers in Kansas are no longer at the forefront of the party’s thoughts, she claims.
“The Democrats know that Reid Hoffman and Laurene Powell Jobs do not have the best interests of everyday Americans at heart, but they will continue to shy away from doing so.
“Forget ‘Kamala is Brat’ or the ‘Joy!’ campaign.
“The image of Soros with Walz perfectly reflects the real atmosphere of Democrats today: the unfettered influence that donors have on this party and the lives they have destroyed in the process.”
